Business Meetup on Transportation & Affordable Development examines intersections between causes

We had an excellent turnout for our June Business Meetup at Deeplocal’s beautiful space in the Strip District, with a respectable list of incredible speakers that are doing a lot of work at the intersection of transportation and affordable development. Our panelists all explained that one is not possible without the other. We need a responsive set of zoning laws to encourage and facilitate their development, and a community of developers, neighborhoods and political leaders that are willing to communicate. If we’re going to create a just city where everyone can afford to bike and walk for transportation or recreation, we need to be take steps to assure that streets are made more safe, while neighborhoods are being kept economically attainable for all.

Thanks to Matt Barron, from the Heinz Endowments, Alex Pazuchanics and Daniel Barrett from the Mayor’s Office, Corey Layman from the Pittsburgh Department of City Planning and Linda Metropulos from Action Housing for taking the time to present and answer questions. Thanks to Deeplocal for hosting June’s Meetup, and thanks to all the attendees for coming to show interest and support. Here’s a link to the night’s presentations:

BikePGH invites you and your colleagues to this month’s meetup with Duolingo at their new East Liberty office. We’ll learn from them and other tech sector leaders about how bikes and active transportation are being used to build an employee culture that people want to be a part of. As always, beer will be free, food will be delicious, and company will be quality.
