Discover Pittsburgh
One of the great things about UPMC Health Plan PedalPGH is how it allows riders to see the city through a new set of eyes, regardless of their skill level.
Each ride is a street-level tour of a unique part of the city: the Local Loop Ride skirts both sides of the Mon, including a segment of the Great Allegheny Passage; the City Tour traces the East End; and the Metric Century reaches the highest points of the North Side and southern Hilltop neighborhoods.
If you’re still stuck on which ride is best for you, here’s a taste of the sights you’ll see on each route:
People’s Local Loop :
If you are looking to head out on a beginner friendly bike ride that is good for kids 8-18 or a casual morning on bikes with your friends the People’s Local Loop is for you. This short city ride will take most between 1 and 2 hours at a very casual pace. When you are done relax and listen to some live music at our PedalPGH finish line festival.
Highmark City Tour:
If you love Pittsburgh you will love the Highmark City Tour. This 25 mile ride will take between 1.5 hours for the faster paced (15mph average) and 4hours for casual riders (8mph with 20min breaks at rest stops) Connecting Pittsburgh beautiful urban parks the City Tour will take you to over a dozen neighborhoods including the Northside, Highland Park, Oakland, and of course Downtown. Rest stops will be fully supported with great snacks and treats where BikePGH’s volunteers will be happy to help you out for whatever you might need to keep you going on your ride.
PJ Dick, Trumbull and Lindy Paving Metric Century:
Whoever decides to tackle this 62-mile behemoth will get to enjoy the highlights of the Riverfront Ride and City Tour — plus a slew of city parks and scenic overlooks from the highest points in Pittsburgh! If you are looking for a challenge this ride is for you. You might not remember the days of the Thrift Drug Classic racing up Mount Washington over and over again, but by the end of the PJ Dick, Trumbull and Lindy Paving Metric Century you will feel like you just finished the race. This ride starts at 7am sharp to beat the heat and takes between 4 hours at 15mph and 6-7 hours for us mere mortals. Note riders should be able to average at least 9-10 miles an hour to take breaks and finish with a bit of time to enjoy the Finish Line Festival.
No matter which route you choose, you can be sure you’ll have a unique Pittsburgh experience. Register today!
