Mark your Calendars: PedalPGH is August 27th!
UPMC Health Plan PedalPGH is the region’s largest bicycle ride (notice we didn’t say “race.”) It’s a casual, fun ride that exposes people of all ages and fitness levels to the neighborhoods, parks, bridges, and geography that make Pittsburgh so unique. Since 1994, PedalPGH showcases Pittsburgh as a fun, bicycle-freindly city, and encourages people to get outside and get healthy.
In 2016, more than 2,600 riders participated in the event which offered various routes of distance and difficulty. 10, 25, 40, and 62 mile loops will once again be offered to participants in 2017, with registration now open!

NEW for 2017 – Ride for a Cause
The American Cancer Society has been named the official charity partner for UPMC Health Plan PedalPGH 2017, a charity ride hosted by bicycle and pedestrian advocacy organization, Bike Pittsburgh.
“This partnership is a great way to introduce more people to our mission and that of the American Cancer Society,” said Scott Bricker, executive director of Bike Pittsburgh. “Given that bike riding is linked to lower cancer rates, we believe that this is going to be great for awareness-building for people who ride bikes but may not know of all the health benefits, and people trying to prevent cancer but don’t know this key way in which they can do so.”
After registering for PedalPGH, participants are encouraged to raise additional funds for the organizations. Those fundraising can receive exclusive bonus items at different levels including training rides, a pre-event participant dinner, and VIP services during the event.
“The partnership between the American Cancer Society and Bike Pittsburgh is a natural fit in conjunction with the Society’s Health Eating & Active Lifestyle initiative,” said Paul Purdy, Senior Manager of Community Events at the American Cancer Society. “PedalPGH is a wonderful outlet for the Greater Pittsburgh cycling community and we are excited to incorporate the life-saving mission of the American Cancer Society through a physically active program that raises both funds and awareness.”
Participation in fundraising at UPMC PedalPGH allows the American Cancer Society to lead the fight for a world without cancer and BikePGH to create safe streets for people biking and walking.
