BikeFest 2017: Week 3

August 20-27

For the uninitiated, BikeFest is our annual celebration of all-things-bicycling in Pittsburgh. Three weekend of Bicycle Themed Fun with bike-themed rides & events organized by local people like you.

This year BikeFest is three weeks long, and we’ll be posting one blog per week highlighting a few events for each day. For a full listing of events, you can always check out the BikeFest Events Calendar here.


Weekday Events

The 4 Tunnel & 3 Bridges Ride

We will ride as a group to and through 4 tunnels and over 3 bridges.

Friday August 25th

Public Art Bike Tour

Langley Observatory Clock by R.M. Fischer next to the Carnegie Science Center, 1 Allegheny Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212

Enjoy a bike ride starting at Langley Observatory Clock by R.M. Fischer. Continue along the North Shore to Millvale to explore a new temporary artwork by Ann Tarantino and other projects in the neighborhood. This is a two hour tour.

Strider Race!

Does your kids love to Strider? Bring their balance bikes out for an all skills event at The Wheel Mill! Riders 7 and can join our race! All you need is a balance bike and a day pass to The Wheel Mill.

Saturday August 26th

Cycle + Soccer

Location: Highmark Stadium, Home of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, 510 W Station Square Drive, Pittsburgh PA 15219

It’s Bike Night at the Riverhounds Stadium. The Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Pgh Bike Share/Healthy Ride are encouraging people to bike over to Station Square/Highmark Stadium and cheer on the Hounds for their August 26, 7pm match against the Bethlehem Steel FC.

PA Interscholastic Cycling League Skills Jam and Ride

Location: Due to scheduling conflicts, the Skills Jam will be relocated to the area below the Boyce Basketball Courts. You will enter the parking lots below the basketball courts and stay left to the lower lot and field.

Come join the PA Interscholastic Cycling League and put your skills to the test on our skills course. We’ll have beginner through expert challenges for all types of riders. And you can learn more about the newest initiative in cycling, where no one sits the bench! Check out www.pamtb.org for more info about interscholastic cycling in your area.

The Lazy Camel Ride

Named after the shape of the route when viewed on a map, the Lazy Camel offers varying terrain on quiet country roads North of Pittsburgh. This route offers riders a great ride with great people. For more rides, visit www.PremierBicycleClub.org and view our ride calendar.

Scenic Pittsburgh Ride

Bicycle Heaven Bicycle Show & Swap Meet is the weekend of August 26 & 27, 2017. This bicycle ride will be led by SnakeguyPGH and will be along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail and some streets in Pittsburgh. This will be a casual ride and will keep a pace of 6-miles/hour. We will cover a distance of 10-12 miles stopping periodically to take photos of our beautiful city. A special stop at Randyland will be made during our adventure! This is a ride-at-your-own-risk event. Bicycles should be in ready-to-ride condition. A release form for each participant must be completed for this ride. Please read, print and complete to save time at registration: https://goo.gl/TB5w19 Bike rentals are available for $8. If renting, please come early to allow time as the ride will try to get started promptly at 11am. Come early or stay late to visit the museums and stock up on bicycle supplies, music memorabilia and spiced goodies.

PedalPGH has been the region’s leading bicycle event (notice we didn’t say “race.”) It’s a casual, fun ride that exposes people of all ages and fitness levels to the neighborhoods, parks, bridges, and geography that make our region so unique. PedalPGH showcases Pittsburgh as a safe, bicycle-friendly city, and encourages people to get out and get healthy. The event brings together athletes, families, community leaders, outdoor enthusiasts, and advocates for bicycle transportation. It promotes a form of lifelong recreation that is good for the body…and the environment.

As a fundraiser PedalPGH enables BikePGH to continue to transform our streets and communities into vibrant, healthy places by making them safe and accessible for everyone to bike and walk.
