BikePGH announces new OpenStreetsPGH route for 2021
OpenStreetsPGH is Presented by UPMC Health Plan
OpenStreetsPGH is back in 2021 and will host a single “mini-route” in the Hazelwood neighborhood of Pittsburgh on July 25. This free community event is organized by Bike Pittsburgh, a non-profit organization that works on behalf of all Pittsburghers to transform our streets and neighborhoods into vibrant, healthy places by making them safe and accessible for everyone to bike and walk.
“For 2021 we have reimagined OpenStreetsPGH as a “mini-event” and will transform Hazelwood Green into a car-free space for safe outdoor recreation. We are so excited to get back to in-person events and be able to showcase a new area of the city that many residents may not have had a chance to explore yet.” said Keya Joseph, Events Director at BikePGH.
OpenStreetsPGH temporarily closes roads to car traffic and invites Pittsburghers to reimagine our streets as places for people.
The brand new mini-OpenStreetsPGH will open 2 miles of city streets in Hazelwood for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy non-motorized recreation. Walk, run, bike, skate, roll, dance, and enjoy the road at your own pace. Jump into a free fitness class at the Wellness Hub, learn how to ride a bike at the Kids Hub, grab food from local food trucks, and enjoy fun activities hosted by local organizations.
“UPMC Health Plan is extremely proud to support OpenStreetsPGH. We look forward to working with BikePGH so the community can enjoy a fun and healthy event. We encourage Pittsburghers to come out and enjoy the day!” said Maris Dauer, Senior Director, Marketing Administration and Community Outreach for UPMC Health Plan.
OpenStreetsPGH is inspired by the global open streets movement. Hundreds of cities around the globe celebrate open streets to promote car-free transportation, healthy outdoor activity, and community engagement using city streets.
