Take a Calmer Alternative to East Carson Street
Looking for a less stressful alternative to bustling East Carson Street? Check out the brand new South Side Neighborway, the first Neighborway to be installed in the City!
This Neighborway is part of the MoveForwardPGH campaign, an initiative of the City of Pittsburgh’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure to implement their new Bike(+) Plan.
Extending from the 10th St Bridge to the SouthSide Works via a new path under The Birmingham Bridge, this Neighborway has been outfitted with wayfinding signs, speed humps, sharrows, and other features to make it a safer route for people biking, walking, and rolling.
A Neighborway is the newest street type in the City of Pittsburgh. It’s a street, or series of connected streets, where motor vehicle speeds and volumes are kept low to make it more comfortable for existing residents, while also making it safer for people to walk, ride a bike, and for kids to play.
Neighborways are located on low-volume residential streets to provide a low-stress alternate route to a major arterial while discouraging drivers from using the street as a cut-through. Because Neighborways are traffic-calmed and do not include bike lanes, the impact on parking or the existing street layout is minimal.
Try the South Side Neighborway out and discover this new, convenient connection!
