Everything You Need to Know about UPMC Health Plan PedalPGH 2021

UPMC Health Plan PedalPGH 2021 will be a hybrid event offering four route options for riders: 7 miles, 25 miles, 40 miles, and 62 miles with support and Rest Stops on all routes from 8 am to 2 pm on Sunday, August 29.

NEW FOR 2021: When you register, you will receive a bib number (included in your packet) that will be your golden ticket to access ride support on August 29th. Don’t forget to wear this on Sunday! 

You may also choose to ride self-supported ride any time from August 26-29. Route signage will be up and available during the entire event weekend.

Due to safety precautions for Covid-19, there is no mass start or Finish Line Festival this year.

We are excited to bring it back next year!

  • Riders may start anywhere along the 4 PedalPGH routes: 7 miles, 25 miles, 40 miles, and 62 miles. There is no official starting or finish line.
  • Routes will be marked with colorful wayfinding signs to guide you around the city. Free digital navigation is also available through the RidewithGPS app.
  • Sport your PedalPGH 2021 T-shirt or jersey as you complete your ride. Make sure to wear your rider bib number and bring a face mask for access to the Rest Stops on Sunday!
  • Rest stops and SAG vehicle support will be available Sunday, August 29th ONLY!

I’m registered, how should I get ready?


  • Look out for the UPMC Health Plan Pedal PGH 2021 Ride Guide coming to your email inbox!
  • Get your bike ready!  Do an ABC quick check!  Find out how here!
  • If your bike needs a tune-up or general service, contact a local shop NOW!  
  • Brush up on your riding skills with all our educational videos and blogs! 
  • Download Ride With GPS onto your phone and/or bike computer and familiarize yourself with the route when it becomes available. 

Pick up your packet from the BikePGH Office

Unless you added packet shipping for $5 to your Eventbrite registration,  you must pick up your packets in person from our office.

  • Wed, August 25, 12 – 5PM
  • Thurs, August 26, 4 – 7 PM
  • Fri, August 27, 4 – 7 PM

  • Please wear a mask and observe social distancing. Free 10 minute parking for bikes and vehicles is available during packet pickup.
  • If you require special accommodation for packet pickup, please contact us at info@bikepgh.org.
  • Make sure you have selected the correct t-shirt and/or jersey size on your Eventbrite ticket. There will be no exchanges or switching sizes onsite. 

I plan to ride or ride self-supported, what should I bring?


  • A phone with your route downloaded to Ride with GPS
  • A helmet
  • Face mask or gaiter for Rest Stops
  • ID, credit/debit card and/or cash, and a Connect Card.
  • A multitool, tire levers, patch kit, pump, and tube for your tire size and valve type.  Need to learn how to fix a flat tire? Watch our video! 
  • If you need special tools to remove your wheels- bring them!
  • At least two bottles of water or sports drink 
  • Snacks that you like to eat on long rides.  Energy bars, fruit, or trail mix are all great options. 
  • Sunscreen or apply beforehand
  • Comfortable gear for riding!  Watch the forecast and dress appropriately.  Bring a windbreaker or rain shell if necessary- the ride is rain or shine!
  • A bike lock if you’re planning to leave your bike unattended for any time.
  • Riding buddies!  Every ride is better with friends, so get some to register if they haven’t already!
