Bike Pittsburgh Issues Traffic Alert for UPMC Health Plan PedalPGH this Weekend

Traffic Alert for Thursday, August 26 through Sunday, August 29

Bicyclists will take to Pittsburgh’s streets this weekend for the 28th Anniversary of UPMC Health Plan Pedal Pittsburgh.

With health and safety front of mind, BikePGH has altered its flagship fundraiser, UPMC Health Plan PedalPGH, to become a “hybrid” ride. The team at BikePGH has been working hard to create a new event experience that will allow riders to enjoy our beautiful city while keeping safely distanced from other participants.

In order to alert motorists and ensure the safety of the riders, Bike Pittsburgh, the organization that coordinates the event, has issued the following traffic advisory and road safety reminder for this weekend. There will be an increase of bicyclists on city streets during the PedalPGH celebration weekend between Thursday, August 26 and Sunday, August 29th. Expect particularly high volumes of cyclists on Sunday, August 29th between 7 am and 3 pm.

ROAD SAFETY REMINDER

Pennsylvania law requires that motorists give at least four feet between the vehicle and the bicyclists when passing. Bike Pittsburgh encourages drivers to review Pennsylvania’s ‘Safe Passing Law’ and to remember that forcing a cyclist off the road is a crime that can lead to legal charges.
