Bicyclists Raise over $210,000 for BikePGH by participating in PedalPGH Presented by UPMC Health Plan

Donations will support advocacy for better biking and walking in Pittsburgh

This August 1800 bicyclists participated in the 28th annual UPMC Health Plan PedalPGH bike ride and helped raise $210,000 for the local non-profit BikePGH. Donations from riders and our generous event sponsors will help BikePGH continue to advocate for safe, car-free transportation options through advocacy, education, and community-building initiatives.

“Given we’re still in the midst of the pandemic, we capped the event at 1,800 riders and we sold out so we’re pretty pumped about reaching that goal,” said Scott Bricker, BikePGH Executive Director. “We’re immensely thankful for everyone who braved the heat and rode this weekend. The funds you enabled us to raise makes it possible to continue to work throughout the year to make Pittsburgh safer and less stressful for biking and walking.”

This year’s hybrid event offered bicyclists the option to ride in-person on Sunday, August 29, 2021, for a more supported experience with access to safe rest stops, or ride virtually, anytime during the event weekend from Thursday, August 26th through Sunday, August 29th.

4 Bicycle-Friendly Routes Around the Steel City

PedalPGH included four fantastic routes ranging from 7 to 62 miles that showcase Pittsburgh’s unique neighborhoods and incredible views. Bicyclists chose their own route and completed their ride anytime during the UPMC Health Plan PedalPGH event weekend from Thursday, August 26 to Sunday, August 29.

“Over the past two years, we have been working with the City of Pittsburgh’s Department of Mobility and Transportation on the rapid implementation of the Bike (+) Plan through the MoveForwardPGH initiative,” said Alexandria Shewczyk BikePGH Marketing and Communications Director. “Our PedalPGH routes highlighted new infrastructure around the city featuring protected bike lanes, Neighborways, trails, and more. When roads are built with everyone in mind, it makes it easier for everyone to get around!”
