Everything you need to know about getting to campus on two-wheels

BikePGH is partnering with the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and Chatham University for the third year in a row to Celebrate Bike to Campus Week! Join us for a combination of virtual and in-person activities from September 20-24.

With the increase of people choosing to bike as a mode of transportation, it is important that students who move to Pittsburgh have the opportunity to safely and confidently learn how to bike around the campus and our City. Learn the basics and more at one of our events below!

Monday, Sep 20: How to Get a Bike

Pitt Specific Session: Healthy Ride at Pitt – benefit overview (Pitt ONLY benefit)

Join Nick Goodfellow, Pitt Sustainability, as he goes over the Pitt/Healthy Ride benefit. This Pitt only benefit is a great way to easily use the Healthy Ride Bike Share System found through the City.

How to Buy a Bike 

Learn how to get a bike that fits you and the riding that you plan to do. Find out where to get a bike and the types of bikes that you can buy.

Tuesday, Sep 21: How to Get Ready to Ride

Ready to Roll – Make sure your bike is safe and comfortable to ride

Learn how to get your bike set up and ready to ride as you traverse around the city. The Pitt Bike Cave will present practical tips to help you make your trips as easy as possible.

How to Accessorize Your Bike to Carry Things, Be Seen, and More

Join Bruce Woods from Major Taylor Cycling and Robin Woods from Black Girls Do Bike as they share how to carry things on your bike, be seen while riding, and more. Whether you’re carrying stuff to school, getting groceries, or shopping locally, they’ll be able to answer your questions!

Wonder what you should wear while biking? Come to this session and learn about the secrets of what to wear for bike commuting. It doesn’t matter if you’re a student, staff, faculty – there will be something for everyone! Register below for this user session.

Wednesday, Sep 22: How to Ride on the Street 

BikePGH Instagram Take Over – Q&A All Day

Follow BikePGH’s Instagram for an all-day takeover where we will be answering your bike questions! We will be answering your questions throughout the day. Follow us and tune in on Wednesday, September 22!

Bicycle Friendly Driver Training

Learn how to safely share the road with bicyclists in this training from Bike Pitt.

Confident City Cycling Class

Come learn how to ride a bike on the streets in Oakland. This class will be taught by BikePGH Education Manager, Ted, who will help you gain confidence to get around town. Registration is limited, so sign up ASAP. The class will take place in front of the Pitt Bike Cave and is open to anyone.

Thursday, Sep 23: Biking at Your Campus

Join your fellow Pitt students, faculty, and staff at the Pitt Farmer’s Market! The Pitt Bike Cave will have a pop-up where you can stop by for a quick tune-up and diagnostics and grab a free helmet!

Carnegie Mellon University

Join CMU for a campus tour of all things related to biking! Find out about bike paths through campus, parking, how to commute, and more.

Friday, Sep 24: Bike Fair at Schenley Plaza & Group Bike Ride

East End Bike Train to Campus:

Do you want to join regular bike commuters as they show you how to get from the East End to Campus? Join the Bike Train and get to campus in a safe, fun way! The Bike Train starts at 11:00am from KaFair Coffee in Morningside: 1806 Chislett St, Pittsburgh, PA 15206.  The train takes a bike friendly route through Morningside, Highland Park, East Liberty, Friendship, Shadyside, CMU Campus, and ends at Schenley Plaza by noon.  Participants should bring their own bike or rent a Healthy Ride bike to join the ride. Helmets strongly encouraged. Pace will be relaxed and group will stay together.
Start Time: 11am at Ka-Fair Coffee in Morningside

Bike Fair at Schenley Plaza

Celebrate everything you love about biking during the Bike Fair at CMU, Pitt, and Chatham. Join us at Schenley Plaza from 12-4 pm and check out bike-related vendors, learn how to register your bike, and more! Come with your bike and friends to celebrate biking!
