Sun. Dec 12: Ride for Will Theisen, cyclist struck and killed on Stanton Ave

Show your support for Will and for safe streets on Dec 12

Early in the morning on November 20, a driver struck and killed East Liberty resident Will Theisen while he was riding his bicycle on Stanton Ave on the border of East Liberty and Highland Park.

While little is publicly known about the circumstances behind the crash, details of Will’s life have emerged. An experienced cyclist and lawyer, Will had dedicated his free time to volunteering at Literacy Pittsburgh helping people learn to read. His motto was, “Life is a journey, enjoy the ride”.

Sunday, December 12: Ride for Will

Will’s friends have organized a ride in his honor “to get people outside, [and] make drivers and cyclists aware of bike safety.”

All are welcome to join the ride to celebrate the life of Will and to show support for his friends and family during these trying times.

Details:

The ride will start at Union Fitness in the Northside, and head to the site of the crash and Will’s ghost bike in East Liberty (corner of Stanton Ave and N St Clair St) for some brief words, then return to Union Fitness. This will be a comfortably paced ride. Alternately, feel free to join at Stanton/N St Clair at around 1PM for some words.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Literacy Pittsburgh https://www.literacypittsburgh.org/monthly-donation/, the Erie Playhouse https://www.erieplayhouse.org/donate/ or a charity of one’s choice.  To send condolences, please visit gluntfuneralhome.com.
