Title:  Membership & Outreach Manager
Position: Full-time, Exempt
Target Start: late January/February 2022
Reports to: Director of Operations 
Mission: BikePGH is transforming our streets to make biking and walking commonplace for all Pittsburghers in order to improve our quality of life and reduce the harmful effects of car dependence in our communities.
Salary: $45,000 – $48,000 annually, depending on experience plus the possibility of earning a bonus if incentive targets are met.

  • 20 days of paid time off annually – combined sick and vacation time;

Organizational Culture & Working Conditions:

  • Work is typically performed in an open office setting but currently working a hybrid schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic;
  • Our office is located in Lawrenceville and shared by a staff of 10; close to major bus lines with indoor and covered outdoor bike parking on-site;
  • Professional but relaxed office atmosphere where employees are encouraged to be their authentic selves;
  • No corporate dress code requirements;
  • On average 40 hours per week;
  • Working hours are often M-F 9-5 though working hours can be adjusted;
  • Occasional weeknights and weekends are required in order to attend events; 
  • Travel within the community will be required when safe to do so;
  • Ample opportunities for professional development and skill building; 
  • Exchange time off for weekend hours or hours worked beyond 40 in a workweek is available to ensure a healthy work-life balance.

Essential Functions and Duties: 

  • Leads the growth and improvement of the BikePGH membership program including sustaining monthly and annual memberships and member renewal retention. 
  • Plans, manages, and executes all outreach initiatives in the city and surrounding municipalities. 
  • Spearheads planning and implementation of membership and fundraising campaigns (distinct from high net worth individual donor cultivation)
  • Organizes and manages membership & outreach components of events including Bike to Work Day, OpenStreetsPGH, PedalPGH, Annual Membership Meeting among others. 
  • Expands outreach initiatives in order to gain more allies, subscribers, and/or member leads/prospects.
  • Responsible for writing membership communications content (membership program, pertinent events, giving campaigns, etc.) and membership materials in coordination with relevant staff and departments.
  • Proactively seeks opportunities to integrate membership with BikePGH programs, events, and advocacy.
  • Helps oversee use of member/donor relationship management system and other necessary applications for tracking donors and outreach.
  • Oversees membership and individual giving financial tracking/reporting.
  • Reviews and updates all membership printed materials as well as website and automated email content on a quarterly basis.
  • Manages and tracks all BikePGH merch sales, inventory, and customer feedback from tabling events.
  • Collaborates with Business Relationship Manager for bi-annual outreach to local businesses in order to expand discount program and cultivate individual members
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations to create and manage the annual budget for the program. 
  • Hires, trains, schedules and manages Summer Outreach Associates.
  • Coordinates donation logistics and promotes Bike Match program.
  • Collaborates with Volunteer Coordinator on membership materials needed for volunteer nights and for barter memberships.
  • Performs other duties and works on other projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be outgoing, personable, and show ability to articulate BikePGH’s mission and make convincing appeals to potential members.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.
  • An ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and Apple products.
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management systems (SalesForce, EveryAction, Mailchimp, and/or Constant Contact) preferred but not required. 
  • Experience in supervising part-time, seasonal staff. 
  • Experience managing program-specific budgets preferred but not required.
  • Passion for the mission of BikePGH and a strong interest in bicycle and pedestrian advocacy.

Experience & Education Requirements:

  • At least 3-5 years relevant work experience (e.g. sales, organizing nonprofit giving campaigns and/or membership drives, writing and editing engaging content, and public speaking)

Physical Demands:

  • Be able to and comfortable with holding an extensive conversation with co-workers and the general public;
  • Varied activities include sitting, reaching, bending, lifting up to 30lbs, pushing/pulling, walking, or assisted walking via wheelchair or mobility device.
