BikePGH is partnering with the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and Chatham University for the fourth year in a row to celebrate Bike to Campus Week! Join us for a combination of virtual and in-person activities from September 12th-16th!
With the increase of people choosing to bike as a mode of transportation, it is important that students who move to Pittsburgh have the opportunity to safely and confidently learn how to bike around the campus and our City. Learn about biking in Pittsburgh and meet members of your campus bike community at the many events below!

Monday, Sep 12:
Pitt Bike to Campus Festival
Pitt Bike Festival – Bike to Campus Week 2022 will kick off at the William Pitt Union Plaza with the Bike Festival! Join us to learn about all the great ways to bike at Pitt! Meet Pitt Mobility, the Pitt Bike Cave, LAGOS (Latin American Graduate Organization of Students), Thriftsburgh, BikePGH, POGOH bike share, Pitt Police, Great Allegheny Passage Conservancy, and Friends of the Riverfront.

Bike Gear Swap with Thriftsburgh
Purchase or swap gently used cycling and athletic gear and clothing at this swap meet hosted by Thriftsburgh and The Pitt Bike Cave.

Carnegie Mellon Bike Fair
Carnegie Mellon Bike Fair: Join us for a Bike Fair from 12-4pm on Tuesday the 13th, outside the Cohon University Center. The Fair will help you bike to campus with: info on POGOH bike share, tune-ups, e-bike demos, anti-theft bike registration, lots of information on biking resources, free maps and Urban Biking guides, and even a few used bikes for sale.

Pitt Bike Career Panel
Join Pitt for their bicycle-focused career panel to hear from Sara Khalil (Director of Operations at Bike Share Pittsburgh, POGOH), Sean Stephens (Project Engineer, Department of Mobility & Infrastructure for the City of Pittsburgh) and Lou Fineberg (National Advocacy Accounts Manager, Dero).

Everything You Need to Know About Choosing a Bicycle
Are you interested in buying a new or used bicycle but not sure where to start? Maybe your current bike is not as comfortable as you would like or you’re not sure it’s the right type of bicycle for you. Join Pitt’s Mobility Specialist, Corey Robinson for a virtual info session from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm and learn everything you need to know when choosing a bicycle and tips to make your current bicycle more comfortable to ride!

Operation Illumination: Free Bike Light Giveaway!
BikePGH’s Operation Illumination program, proudly presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates this year, will be popping up simultaneously at Schenley Plaza on Pitt campus and Forbes and Morewood on CMU campus from 5 pm to 7 pm to distribute free front and rear bike lights and helmets, as well as bike guides and maps for two hours or as long as supplies last! All you need to do is stop by with your UNLIT bicycle to receive your own set of lights!

Wednesday, Sep 14:
Pitt Bike Cave’s GAP Trail Information Session
Join Jason Graham from Pitt’s Bike Cave and Corey Robinson from Pitt’s Department of Mobility to learn about the different ways to experience and enjoy the Great Allegheny Passage Bike Trail! The information session will take place at the Pitt Bike Cave.

Carnegie Mellon University Campus Bike Tour
Join CMU for a campus tour of all things related to biking! Find out about the best routes from campus to nearby points (including a couple secret shortcuts), bike parking hints, locations of repair stations, and more. Starts at 5pm at the Walking to the Sky statue. Bike and helmet required.

Confident City Cycling Class
BikePGH’s Confident City Cycling class provides all the skills and knowledge on how to safely ride on Pittsburgh’s streets. This FREE on-the-bike class will cover basic and advanced cycling skills, best practices for solo and group riding, and includes a culminating group ride around Oakland that utilizes the best of local bicycle infrastructure! Instructors will also be on-hand to answer your questions about biking to campus or anywhere else in Pittsburgh. No bike or helmet- no problem! Helmets and free Pogoh bike rentals are available!

Thursday, Sep 15:
Pitt/CMU Hosted Confident City Cycling Class
The University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University will co-host a Confident City Cycling bike class. The class will be taught by certified instructors and is open to all university students, faculty, and staff at both Pitt and CMU. Registration is required and all participants must wear a helmet and know how to ride a bicycle.

Friday, Sep 16:
Pitt Park(ing) Day: Bike Handling Skills
Practice bike handling skills that will help you to start and stop with confidence, keep you riding in a straight line, make scanning for traffic easier, and more! Come and go as you like for this on-demand bike class. Helmets are required to participate. Park(ing) Day will take place in Pitt’s RA lot next to Ruskin Hall at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Ruskin Avenue.

Group Ride Cohosted by Pitt Bike Cave and LAGOS
Join the Pitt Bike Cave and LAGOS (Latin American Graduate Organization of Students) on a 4-mile group ride to Highland Park (8 miles round trip)! Group riding is a great way to learn how to navigate the streets by bike and gain confidence through experience. The group ride is open to everyone from beginner bicyclists to experienced bicyclists. The ride will be split into two groups, one for folks who want to ride fast and one for folks that want to take it slow. Helmets, bike lights, and reflective or bright clothes are strongly recommended.
