Celebrate a decade of bike education and events at Pittsburgh’s premier indoor bike park!
It’s hard to believe it’s only been a decade since The Wheel Mill opened, because the impact they’ve had on the Pittsburgh bike community in that time has been monumental! From a dusty old warehouse to now one of the nation’s biggest and most beloved indoor bike parks, The Wheel Mill has had quite the ride. Although it has acquired quite a reputation as the proving ground for a generation of high-flying BMX riders and mountain bikers, The Wheel Mill has a special place in our hearts for its work to build a better bike community for everyone.
“The Wheel Mill is all about the community”
As they say, “Whatever we can do to build and better the cycling and greater Pittsburgh community we will do.” Their inclusive approach to community has always meant educational and riding opportunities for riders of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Education takes the form of summer camps for youth throughout the region, a homebase for Ruach Cycling Club which brings cycling and STEM skills to youth in the surrounding neighborhoods, private learn-to-ride lessons for youth and adults alike, adult Fundamentals of City Cycling classes, and weekly free MTB lessons for Women and Non-Binary identified riders. The Wheel Mill also brings fun and exciting free kids’ bike activities to our Open Streets and community events every year. And they can throw quite a party! So, celebrate 10 years with The Wheel Mill in 2023 with a visit to the park, a lesson, or by attending some of their exciting 2023 events:
- Wood Fest Indoor Mountain Bike Festival (February 18th, 2023) – All things mountain bikes! Clinics, contests, demos, bike garage sale and of course some adult refreshments.
- Ride Like A Girl Weekend (March 17th, 18th & 19th, 2023) – We shut down the park so women and non-binary riders can take over the park and learn new skills! Join Carley Young, Karen Brooks and guest instructors for an amazing weekend.
- Next Generation Jam (April 8th, 2023) – This jam is for the next generation to get their time to shine! Hosted by the Halahans and Mike Potoczny. It always is a good time for riders 18 and under.
- 10 Year Anniversary Jam (May 6th, 2023) – Whoa! Time flies. We want to celebrate big! Join us for some fun.
