Climate Riders raised over $7000 for BikePGH!

Thank you, Climate Riders!

Cyclists raised money and enjoyed nature on the open road

Back in August we posted about five Pittsburghers who were doing Climate Rides and had nominated BikePGH as a beneficiary of their fundraising. Their combined efforts resulted in a donation of a whopping $7056.00, which includes a match by the Algorand Foundation.

Riders reported that they enjoyed their rides and the challenges they faced were worth it, knowing that their sweat and exertion was on behalf of organizations that are working to counter climate change.

Are you inspired to ride for the environment? Check out the 2023 Climate Rides–the first one is in April!

Here’s what the 2022 riders say about their adventures:

Ken Segel rode the Death Valley Climate Ride

From Ken:

My ride in Death Valley was … amazing.  I just signed up for another smaller Climate Ride event in Virginia in June, and again designated Bike Pittsburgh as one of my charities. More coming this year for Bike Pittsburgh!

Ken is doing another Climate Ride to support BikePGH–the Green Fondo Virginia in April!

Friends Kate Cummings & Matt Reed rode the Green Fondo in Western NY state

From Kate:

Biking in upstate NY in September is amazing. The weather’s perfect, and the hills are hard enough to be challenging but not overwhelming. I met some cool people. I listened to some good talks about the environment. I did a hard thing. I raised money for cool climate organizations.

Ultimately, it means the world to me biking for environmental charities. Climate change and environmental issues are so big they can feel suffocating, so all you can do is take it piece by piece. I am thrilled to support impactful charities like BikePGH because it feels like tackling one piece.

I am going to do another Climate Ride in Virginia in April 2023. I am concerned by how quickly it is coming up, but excited to be back at it again so early in the year.

From Matt:

The Climate Ride I did in 2022 was the Green Fondo Western New York in beautiful Chautauqua. The [two days of] rides were difficult but rewarding and a lot of fun. I am lucky that I bike so often in Pittsburgh because it helped prepare me for some massive hills. Outside of riding, there were great activities and talks, and I ended up meeting some amazing people.

I’m proud of the bike ride, happy to do even a small part to raise money and awareness about climate change. And I’m enthusiastic that a big part of the money I raised is going to BikePGH.

I have still not decided if I am going to do another Climate Ride in 2023, but I definitely plan to do another one sometime soon.
