POSITION DESCRIPTION
BikePGH is hiring enthusiastic and energetic people to join our Part-time Seasonal Events Team for summer 2023 to assist in the execution of our OpenStreetsPGH event series and potentially other events throughout the summer season.
What is OpenStreetsPGH?
OpenStreetsPGH is a free community event organized by BikePGH that temporarily opens miles of city streets for neighbors to walk, run, bike, and explore spaces that would otherwise be used by motor vehicles. OpenStreetsPGH allows us to rethink our environment and see what neighborhoods could look like if more space was dedicated to people focused transportation.
POSITIONS AVAILABLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Production Team: Responsibilities include setting up and tearing down the day of the event, assisting staff at BikePGH outreach tents, driving a large cargo van of event supplies if needed. Up to 25 hours per event week during the last week of May, June, July, and the opportunity to work PedalPGH in August.
- Bike Safety Team: Responsibilities include supporting event set-up following safety guidelines to ensure the safety of attendees, assisting the general public as needed, and helping set up safety-related signage. Up to 8 hours on the day of each OpenStreetsPGH event.
- Data Collection Team: Responsibilities include keeping an accurate count of all participants at a set location along the route using a clicker for 15 minute intervals. Up to 6 hours on the day of each event.
- Kids Hub Team: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, setting up and tearing down; assisting youth participants with helmet fitting, balance bike, basic skills, and trike stations at the Kids Hub. Please note that you must have clearances for working with children in PA. Clearances must not be older than 5 years old. (Up to 6 hours on the day of each event.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Attend 1 mandatory training in early May (virtual via Zoom).
- Flexible when met with varied work duties and help with others as required.
- Willingness to be outside. Most shifts will be either outdoors or in a non-climate controlled environment during the summer months.
- Culturally aware and comfortable working with diverse populations across Pittsburgh’s communities.
- Ability to take direction, follow detailed instructions, and work with others for a common goal.
- For all positions, the ability to stand and walk for the majority of the shift and the ability to lift and carry up to 30lbs.
- For Production Team positions, a valid driver’s license and clean driving record are required.
- For Bike Safety Team positions you must have a working bicycle with large bags to carry supplies and be capable of riding 30-40 miles the day of the event.
- For Kids Hub Team positions you must have clearances for working with children in PA. Clearances must not be older than five years old.

- Pre-event shifts will be available:
- May 25-27
- June 22-24
- July 27-29
- Event day shifts occur on:
- Sunday, May 28th
- Sunday, June 25th
- Saturday, July 30th
- Post-event shifts will be available:
- Tuesday, May 30th
- Tuesday, June 27th
- Tuesday, August 1st
- Pre-event shifts will be available:
- Bike Safety Team, Data Collection Team, and Kids Hub Team must be available to work event day shifts:
- Sunday, May 28th
- Sunday, June 25th
- Saturday, July 30th
