Why? Because it’s National Bike Month & our May Membership Campaign
BikePGH is here to support your cycling journey by first and foremost advocating for safer and more accessible streets for our most vulnerable road users, that is, people who bike, walk, and roll. Pittsburgh boasts 113+ miles of bikeways due in large part to BikePGH’s 20 years of advocacy. In 2023 we’re pushing for the City to commit to Vision Zero, zero traffic deaths by 2035. Your membership keeps our wheels turning and allows us to do this incredibly important work!

May is National Bike Month!
Started by the League of American Cyclists in 1956, National Bike Month shines a light on the joys and multitudinous benefits of cycling. Communities across the country come together every May to promote cycling as a means of transportation to work, school, everyday errands, meet up with friends, enjoy the outdoors, and for fitness and recreation. National Bike Month is for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned cyclist, haven’t been on a bike in years, or somewhere in between.
We’re here for education
In service of our mission to make bicycling for daily transportation commonplace for all Pittsburghers, BikePGH offers classes in cycling and bike maintenance free of charge and open to all. Participants benefit directly by gaining new skills that promote independence and personal and environmental health. And, getting more cyclists on the road benefits everyone–there’s safety in numbers and it helps convince decision-makers that more and better infrastructure is needed.
We’re here for community
Our events help Pittsburghers experience people-first streets. Our first event in 2023 is the all-new Bike to Work Day on May 19. Regardless of where you’re working from that day, hop on your bike or other human-powered mobility device and come see us at one of four new Bike to Work Day locations–we’ll be serving coffee and breakfast treats at two morning locations, and offering beer and n/a beverages at two evening locations. Join or upgrade while you’re there and you can walk away with the exclusive thank you gifts described above!
Speaking of all-new, this year all three OpenStreetsPGH routes are new! We can’t wait to bring the people-first streets experience to thousands more Pittsburghers.
Happy National Bike Month: Our goal is to sign up 100 new members during our May membership drive, so please join us today!
