Speak up for biking and walking & get free dinner!
UPDATE: The city is now accepting capital project ideas via a survey on their website. Submit your ideas now!
One of the most sure-fire ways to make Pittsburgh better for biking and walking is to make sure that projects that improve biking and walking are included in the Capital Budget.
A Capital Budget is the way that a City’s Mayor prioritizes and funds the things they want to see built. One can think of a Capital Budget as the conscience of a Mayor. The things that they think are important are the things that get funded.
It’s our job as neighborhood advocates to help make the case for continuous and expanded funding for safety improvements on our streets.
One way to do that is to make sure that the Mayor knows that these types of projects are important to you.
This year, the City will host four in-person engagements and one virtual to find out what residents think should be the Mayor’s top priorities.
Join your neighbors for roundtable discussions with representatives of City departments to learn more and cast your vote for what matters most for your community.
In short, the more people that go to these meetings and talk about the need for safe streets improvements such as traffic calming, complete streets, bike lanes, trails, steps, curb ramps, crosswalks, and bump outs, the more it will help ensure these live saving measures get funded.
Dinner will be provided, so bring a date!
