Mark Your Calendars – 2024 WMNBikePGH Camping Trip

It’s our fourth year of supportive bike camping & community: September 28th-29th

For the past three years, we’ve hosted a supported bike camping trip from Pittsburgh down the GAP trail, and this year marks the fourth year! Seasoned and newcomer bike campers who are a part of our WMNBikePGH community come together on our annual bike camping trip to have fun, push themselves in a supportive place, and strengthen community bonds.

Who is this event for?

BikePGH’s Women & Non-Binary program was created to break down barriers to bicycling and increase the representation of people who have historically marginalized gender identities. The program is inclusive of trans and cis women, intersex people, non-binary, genderqueer, agender and gender variant folks, as well as those whose gender identity falls outside of the dominant conceptions of gender.
(*a further note on how to support our community below*)

If you identify with the above statement and want to go bike camping with other badass humans, consider joining us the weekend of September 28th and 29th. Space is limited, registered participants only.

On Saturday, 9/28, we will ride 35 miles on the GAP trail from REI (SouthSide Works) to Cedar Creek Campsite. If you’re not comfortable with that amount of riding, you can meet us at our lunch stop in Little Boston and join the group for the remaining 18 miles to camp (more info on the event sign up form).
A note about trail riding: the GAP trail is almost entirely flat (there are a couple of hills, but not many!), which means that participants will be pedaling almost the entire time. Since the trail is flat, there’s little opportunity to coast or stop pedaling. Please be prepared for 3+ hours of nearly constant pedaling each way. We will take breaks along the way.

Our trip is designed to support folks who want to try bike camping with some support. All participants are responsible for carrying their own camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, hammock, clothing, and personal items). We encourage you to pack and bring what you need to be comfortable and well cared for. Some people travel light, and others, like me, like to bring more – however, you want to show up to this trip is welcome!

Our programs like WMNBikePGH are made possible thanks to the support we receive from BikePGH members and donors. Join us!

If you do not have access to camping supplies, contact us! We may be able to help you out: info@bikepgh.org

On this trip, BikePGH provides trained ride leaders and support staff, ample snacks, a full dinner at the campsite on Saturday, plus breakfast, coffee, and trail snacks for the ride back on Sunday! We make it our goal to do this so that you don’t have to worry about carrying any food, camp drinks, coffee, and snacks – which is huge and we are happy to do it!

$20 reserves your spot on the camping trip, but please note no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Email info@bikepgh.org if you are unable to pay at this time.

*Please recognize that this trip is intended for femme, trans, women, and non-binary folks only. If you do not identify as such but would like to support our efforts in breaking down barriers to cycling, make a donation to support our WMNBikePGH program.
