Join us for OpenStreetsPGH on Saturday, July 27th, 2024 from 10am – 2pm as we celebrate East Liberty, Homewood, and Point Breeze with 2.5 miles of car-free fun. Hosted by BikePGH and presented by UPMC Health Plan, OpenStreetsPGH is Pittsburgh’s fastest-growing free event series that opens miles of streets for people of all ages and abilities to explore our neighborhoods while biking, walking, and rolling. Come out and walk, roll, shop, eat, and connect with friends and neighbors.

This month’s event revisits some of OpenStreetsPGH’s favorite neighborhoods and new bike infrastructure. Check out our list of places you won’t want to miss in Homewood, and be sure to message us if you have more to share!

    • This authentic Jamaican restaurant is serving up generous portions of Jamaican classics, like brown stew chicken, plantains, and oxtails. 
  • Cuddy’s7901 Tioga St
    • Open since 2017, Cuddy’s offers an array of hearty, delicious soul food. Their second location recently opened in Lawrence Hall in Lawrenceville, too!

    • Shuman’s is a halal restaurant that can serve you all times of day, and for any occasion. Come for their all day breakfast, stay for their hibachi. And, they cater!
  • Showcase BBQ6800 Frankstown Ave #1370
    • Showcase offers a variety of ribs (beef, pork, and turkey) as well as a large selection of delicious side dishes, wings, and sandwiches. Get there early before they sell out.

OpenStreetsPGH is excited to be collaborating with this wonderful community event on Homewood Ave.

    • With private music lessons for all ages, a jazz ensemble, and a renowned Boys Choir, AAMI promotes the artistic expression of musicians of all skill levels through African American musical tradition.

    • Named for two important African American abstract artists – Alma Thomas and Norman Lewis – ALMA | LEWIS is an art space dedicated to black culture. A | L holds contemporary exhibitions, hosts visual and literary artist residencies, and promotes their archive of Black history, culture, and art amongst patrons, peers, and collaborators alike.
  • Legacy Arts Project7227 Tioga St
    • Centered around the artistic impact of the African diaspora, Legacy Arts Project offers a variety of dance and drum classes, weekend artistic programs, and their annual celebration of African dance, art, and spoken word: Dance Africa!

    • Offering African drumming, dance, and martial arts, Sankofa is a hub for African American movement and joy in Homewood.

    • Once home to The National Negro Opera Company (NNOC), and now an official Historical Marker, the NOH is now a non-profit dedicated to the restoration of The National Opera House building and the support of the arts in underserved communities.

Are you ready to ride? Stop by Operation Illumination in Homewood on Wednesday, July 24th to pick up free bike lights and a free helmet, as well as free safety checks from Free Ride Bicycle Collective. First come first serve!

I live along the route. What do I need to know?

Streets will begin closing to cars on Saturday, July 27th at 9 a.m. and will start reopening around 2 p.m. ⚠️ Cars parked along the route must be moved before 3 a.m. on Saturday morning or they will be towed. ⚠️ “No Parking” signs will be placed along the route on Wednesday.
