Here’s how we made Pittsburgh’s streets come alive this summer

Thank you for an incredible season of OpenStreetsPGH!

This past Saturday in Homewood + East End was a fantastic way to end our 2024 season. Attracting over 50,000 guests each summer, this year OpenStreetsPGH was thrilled to partner with hundreds with of local businesses and organizations to curate an exciting array of activities and fun for all ages and abilities.

Thank you to our staff, volunteers, presenting sponsor UPMC Health Plan, and the rest of our sponsors and community partners, plus all the great local businesses who activated the streets with us. You all played a crucial role in creating car-free spaces filled with joy and activity for everyone in Pittsburgh. And to every participant who joined us: your presence turned our vision of vibrant, people-powered streets into a reality.

Inspired by the global open streets movement: Hundreds of cities around the globe celebrate open streets to promote car-free transportation, healthy outdoor activity, and community engagement using city streets.

This 2.5-mile route took participants on a car-free trip through East End neighborhoods, taking in parks and local hotspots throughout Larimer and East Liberty, then through the heart of Homewood to showcase incredible art, community gardens, and new businesses. The fun extended toward Point Breeze to the recently constructed Rockwell Park.
