In honor of The Pittsburgh Bike Map Version 10 coming this spring, we’re taking a trip down memory bike lane

If you’ve used the map, hung it on your wall, or handed it to a friend, you know the value of this local resource

Version 1 of The Pittsburgh Bike Map was created by BikePGH in 2007, and it was the first Pittsburgh bike map for the city in fifteen years. At that time, we gave away almost 20,000 copies in only a few months!

Now, 18 years later, we want to hear your bike map memories!

  • Maybe it was the thing that got you into biking here…
  • Maybe it helped you plan or win an alley cat.. ( looking’ at you Frigid Bitch riders)
  • Maybe you have one framed in your office and every time you look at it you wanna get out and ride
  • Maybe you helped design a cover.. (howdy Lizzy, howdy Deep Local, and howdy design friends)
  • Maybe you handed one to your future best friend or future partner….

Whatever it is, please tell us! Stories can be a few words or a few paragraphs, anything you want to share.

Why The Pittsburgh Bike Map is so meaningful

Once Version 10 is released this spring, we will have produced 10 editions over the past eighteen years! In that time, tens of thousands of people have relied on this free resource for learning the basics of safe riding and navigating our beautiful city. On top of that, the online version of The Pittsburgh Bike Map webpage gets a whopping of ~56 digital views per day on average (which reminds us…. if your business wants to advertise in Version 10, get at us!)

This indispensable resource has also served as a living document along the way, telling the story of our work. Each time we edit the map, the amount of cautionary routes lessens, and the amount of recommended bike routes with infrastructure increases.

We’ve been fortunate to add more bike infrastructure with every new edition of the map. As for the many wins since our last bike map was produced 3 years ago… we now have new bike infrastructure on Forbes Ave, Penn Circle in East Liberty, Stanton Ave, a Neighborway between the Chateau Trail and Riverview Park, and an underpass at the 40th St Bridge, to name just a few.

We have a lot to celebrate, stay tuned!
