Learn 2 Ride this Summer at the Bud Harris Cycling Track

Six children wearing bike helmets and bright clothing stand in a line astride their bicycles. Behind them are tents and cones demarcating a training course.

We’re teaching kids of all ages how to ride bikes at this free event series in partnership with CitiParks and POGOH!

Back for 2025 — In partnership with CitiParks and POGOH, BikePGH is popping up at The Bud Harris Cycling Track to provide free group learn-to-ride classes (registration required) for youth aged 5-12 and tweens through teens 12+ this summer!

Sign up for an instructor-led group class, practice on the track, or let your younger kids loose at our Kids Balance Bike Zone! Say hi to The Bike People who will be on hand to talk all things biking in Pittsburgh, plus OpenStreetsPGH, PedalPGH, and all the things BikePGH and POGOH have in store this year.

Where:

Bud Harris Cycling Track, 1401 Washington Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15206

When:

Friday, May 30th

Friday, June 20th

Friday, July 18th

Friday, August 29th

The track and Kids Balance Bike Zone will be open from 4-7 pm. For children under 5, enjoy our walk-up Kids Balance Bike Zone for free practice ( no registration is needed for that area!) More experienced riders can also practice on the outer track with a 10 mph speed limit.

**Pre-registration is not needed for the Kids Balance Bike Zone or the outer track, but registration is required for all instructor-led classes (see below).

We’re able to provide this free event to the community thanks to the support we receive from BikePGH members and donors. Join us!

Register for Group Classes

Group Learn to Ride classes start at 4:30 pm and 5:45 pm and are one-hour in length. Registration before the event is preferred, but we will have a limited amount of walk up spots.

Our classes use a “Balance First” method so training wheels should be removed beforehand. Pedals may also be removed during class. Please bring your child’s properly fitting bike in good working order with tires pumped up firmly (we will not have time to repair bikes during the class.) A limited number of loaner bikes will be available (first come first served.) Please wear closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops) and please bring a properly fitting helmet. Helmets must be worn at all times while riding. We can provide loaner helmets as long as supplies last.

What about adults?

Are you an adult looking to learn to ride? Check out POGOH’s free 101 and 201 classes to get up to speed or contact us to request private lessons from an instructor! See all of our adult class options here.
