Join DOMI to see what “quick-build” safety improvements are planned in the South Side
The Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI) is planning and designing a quick-build traffic calming project on S 18th St as part of its 2025 suite of Vision Zero implementation projects. The City will identify and implement targeted safety improvements on S 18th St between E Carson St and Monastery Ave to alleviate the safety issues that put this section of S 18th St on the High Injury Network (HIN).
They plan to share their proposal at a community meeting on Tuesday, June 24. Attendees will have a chance to learn more and provide feedback prior to construction later this year
Among the suite of possible changes include new sidewalks and a bicycle “climbing lane” to give people riding bikes some space as they ascend toward Mt Oliver and other southern neighborhoods. These treatments were identified in the City’s Bike(+) Plan as well as the Critical Sidewalk Gaps program, and have been a priority for neighborhood residents and advocates for a number of years.
