Campus Bike Week 2025 provided classes and resources for bike riders at universities across Pittsburgh!

A plethora of Campus Bike Week activities! Classes, rides, happy joyful bike riding.

BikePGH was proud to partner with college communities to give out free bike stuff, classes, and resources to hundreds of students & staff

Last week, university students, faculty, and campus visitors celebrated CAMPUS BIKE WEEK 2025, from September 7 – 12th at University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, Chatham University and Duquesne University. BikePGH was proud to partner with our friends from these universities (special shoutout to Complete Streets at Pitt, Pitt Bike Cave, Pitt Mobility, and CMU’s brand new student-led on-campus bike shop, The Tartan Bike Project!) and POGOH to promote a full week of biking, giveaways, safety tips, and resources to Pittsburgh campuses.

We got biking resources into more hands

Campus Bike Week is all about connecting students with resources to bike safely and confidently in the city. Confident City Cycling Classes and social group rides throughout the week proved once again how biking is at the heart of campus culture.

POGOH, Pittsburgh’s bikeshare system, kept riders moving with free 30-minute rides for students. With 600 bikes and 60+ stations (and more coming in their phase three expansion!!) POGOH is a true game-changer for campus commuting and recreation.

Bike commuting is a key part of Pittsburgh’s sustainable transportation future. According to Pitt Sustainability, commuting emissions have dropped over 65% since 2019, thanks in part to increased use of active and shared modes like biking. Half the Pitt campus now walks, bikes, or buses to get around, which is a huge win!

Operation Illumination was LIT… LITerally!

At Schenley Plaza, our Operation Illumination event was a highlight. We gave away:

  • 150 front and rear bike light sets
  • 30 helmets
  • The BikePGH Bike Map
  • The E-BikePGH Guide
  • And info on all things biking in Pittsburgh

Big thanks to the Pitt Bike Cave for offering free bike safety checks and introducing students to their DIY repair space.

Congrats also to The Tartan Bike Project on their grand opening!

The Tartan Bike Project is CMU’s student-led on-campus bike shop, offering all you need to get going on a bicycle. Stop in to get advice on bike repair and maintenance, or sign up for a repair appointment. If you don’t yet have a bike, we offer short- and long-term rentals and affordable used-bike sales. The Tartan Bike Project is also a hub for social bike rides, campus bike events and bike-related activism.Check them out here.

See you on the street

BikePGH is proud to support a city where students, staff, and the community can be prepared to ride with confidence. See next year, and until then, we hope to see you out biking confidently on the streets!
