Celebrating the Businesses Moving Pittsburgh Forward!
On Tuesday, November 18, we gathered to celebrate the businesses that helped improve the safety & accessibility our of city in 2025. Huge thanks to the Mattress Factory for hosting, Bistro to Go for the incredible food, Two Frays Brewery for donating some beer, and Ace Bartenders for serving good cheer.

Fabricated by local artist William Vitous, trophies are presented to each standout business. Inspired by the iconic Three Rivers Bike Rack, a rack we helped install across the city in conjunction with our bike rack manufacturing partners, Dero, and with grant funding.
This year brought both new challenges and meaningful progress. Thanks to the support of our Business Network, BikePGH was able to:
- Launch Pittsburgh Walks and Safe Sidewalks Crew trainings with DOMI, Access Mob, and partners across the city.
- Host our first WMNBikePGH Scavenger Hunt, bringing over 100 riders together.
- Convene the inaugural Vision Zero Summit, marking one year since Pittsburgh committed to Vision Zero.
- Celebrate the opening of the Davis Avenue Bridge, reconnecting the neighborhood of Brighton Heights and Riverview Park.
- Release the 10th Edition of The Pittsburgh Bike Map.
- Distribute more than 500 sets of bike lights through Operation Illumination and an additional 300 sets of lights through our kids’ light partnership with PennDOT and Pittsburgh area schools.
- Support the passage of Allegheny County’s Complete Streets resolution.
- Submit an amicus brief to the PA Supreme Court affirming bicyclists’ rights.
- Celebrate the installation of the Penn Avenue bike lane, a long-overdue safety upgrade in Pittsburgh’s historic Strip District.
- and much more
It was a joy to honor the partners who made this work possible:
New Sponsor of the Year – Duquesne Light Company

Duquesne Light Company has been powering Pittsburgh for over 100 years. More recently, they’ve been making Pittsburgh “go” as well as “glow” with initiatives toward electrification of vehicles, including PRT buses and support for our friends over at POGOH, helping to get power charging the bikes at the dock for over half of the charging stations all over the city.
We’re so excited to welcome Duquesne Light Company into our growing list of partners.
Partner of the Year – Michael Baker International

As a firm that takes pride in a complete streets approach, they helped the PDP and DOMI reimagine several city thoroughfares during the pandemic for a people-centered dining experience that helped keep downtown thoroughfares lively at a time when they needed revival most. Teams at Michael Baker have reached out to BikePGH over the years to consult on projects, because they care about getting things done correctly. The Vision Zero Summit in October was a huge success, thanks to Michael Baker being a key collaborator, and it was no surprise that they were one of our first partners to sign on in support of that event.
Small Business Champion – Shuman’s Homewood

We first encountered Shuman’s back in 2024 to prepare Homewood for an upcoming OpenStreets. We felt very strongly about keeping our volunteers fed with food from an establishment in the neighborhood. Naela and her family were happy to oblige, and made us so many tasty sandwiches, and threw in some bonus watermelon. Since then, Shuman’s has been the caterer for several of our community events, and they always overfeed us. We were surprised and grateful when they wanted to try to tackle feeding the hungry riders at PedalPGH this year, and feed them within our budget. That’s 3,000 hungry riders all from their humble kitchen in Homewood.
Every collaboration with the Shuman’s crew has been like working with family.
Bike Industry Partner of the Year – Ike’s Basement Bike Shop

Ike’s Basement Bike Shop is as small an operation as it sounds: one man, one basement, one mission. But after he joined us for OpenStreetsPGH in June, he expanded his footprint and it felt like he brought the whole basement bike shop to OpenStreetsPGH. Then Ike joined us again for PedalPGH and kept people safe and rolling throughout the event. We’re happy to have his enthusiasm and we love Ike’s personal mission: “I am driven by a deep concern for the state of bicycling. Biking is liberation for all; whether you are exploring your neighborhood after taking off your training wheels for the first time, getting to work on time or just having fun on the trails. Two wheels can take you around the city, the state and the world as long as they’re maintained well…”
Congratulations to all of our awardees; your commitment to safe, accessible mobility strengthens our city every day. And it was so wonderful to celebrate the year with you! Check out our Flickr Album here to see more photos from the night.
