The 2024 event season is coming and we need YOU!

BikePGH is looking for enthusiastic and energetic people to join our Part-time Seasonal Events Team for summer 2024 to assist in the execution of our OpenStreetsPGH event series, with the potential for additional event shifts throughout the summer season. Roles available are Production Team Staff, Safety Team Staff, Data Collection Team Staff, and Kids Hub Staff.

What is OpenStreetsPGH?
OpenStreetsPGH is a free community event organized by BikePGH that temporarily opens miles of city streets for neighbors to walk, run, bike, and explore spaces that would otherwise be used by motor vehicles. OpenStreetsPGH allows us to rethink our environment and see what neighborhoods could look like if more space was dedicated to people focused transportation

SEASONAL EVENTS TEAM OVERVIEW

Compensation: Positions start at $17/hr
Reports to:  Events Manager & Events Director at BikePGH

POSITIONS AVAILABLE & DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Production Team:  Responsibilities include pre & post event set up shifts, setting up and tearing down the day of the event, assisting staff at BikePGH outreach tents by selling merchandise and interacting with event participants, driving a large cargo van of event supplies if needed. Cycling experience is helpful, but not required. (Up to 25 hours per OpenStreetsPGH event week during May, June, and July, with the opportunity to work at PedalPGH in August.)
  • Bike Safety Team: Responsibilities include setting up and moving safety barricades and signage, following safety guidelines to ensure the safety of attendees, assisting the general public as needed, and interfacing with police and crossing guards throughout the event. (Up to 8 hours on the day of each OpenStreetsPGH event.)
  • Data Collection Team: Responsibilities include keeping an accurate count of all participants at a set location along the route using a clicker for 15 minute intervals, as well as encouraging participants to complete a short survey for BikePGH to gauge interests and gather feedback. Cycling experience is helpful, but not required. (Up to 6 hours of each OpenStreetsPGH event.)
  • Kids Hub Team: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, setting up and tearing down event supplies; assisting youth participants with helmet fitting, balance bike, basic skills, and trike stations at the Kids Hub. but not required. *Please note that you must have clearances for working with children in PA. Clearances must not be older than 5 years old. (Up to 6 hours of each OpenStreetsPGH event.)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Attend 1 seasonal events team mandatory training on May 1st. 
  • Flexible when met with varied work duties and help with others as required. 
  • Willingness to be outside. Most shifts will be either outdoors or in a non-climate controlled environment during the summer months.
  • Culturally aware and comfortable working with diverse populations across Pittsburgh’s communities.
  • Ability to take direction, follow detailed instructions, and work with others for a common goal.
  • For all positions, the ability to stand and walk for the majority of the shift and the ability to lift and carry up to 30lbs.
  • For Production Team positions a valid driver’s license and clean driving record are required.
  • For Bike Safety Team positions you must have a working bicycle with large bags to carry supplies and be capable of riding 30-40 miles the day of the event.
  • For Data Collection Team positions applicants must be comfortable approaching and interacting with event participants and standing or sitting for long periods in order to collect accurate data from one location.
  • For Kids Hub Team positions you must have clearances for working with children in PA. Clearances must not be older than five years old.

SHIFT REQUIREMENTS

Bike Safety Team, Data Collection Team, and Kids Hub Team must be available to work event day shifts:

  • Saturday, May 11th
  • Friday, June 7th (Kid Hub Team Only)
  • Saturday, June 29th
  • Saturday, July 27th

Production Team must be available to work the following shifts:

May

  • Thursday 5/9 & Friday 5/10 – 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
  • Saturday 5/11 – 7:45 am – 3:00pm 
  • Monday 5/13 – 10:00am – 4:00p pm 

June

  • Wednesday 6/26 & Thursday 6/27 – 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
  • Saturday 6/29 – 7:45 am – 3:00 pm
  • Monday 7/1 – 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

July

  • Wednesday 7/24 & Thursday 7/25 – 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
  • Saturday 7/27 – 7:45 am – 3:00 pm
  • Monday 7/29 – 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through March 19, 2024 and considered until the positions are filled. Applicants will receive an offer letter no later than April 26, 2024. Staff will begin working in early May 2024.
