VISION ZERO

Vision Zero is the concept that all traffic crashes are preventable, and that a we can collectively work to achieve zero traffic deaths and serious injuries. In March 2024, the City of Pittsburgh formally committed to a Vision Zero goal, and now we need to track the progress.

PEDESTRIAN ADVOCACY

Pittsburgh has always been a city that walks, and BikePGH is committed to ensuring that everyone can do so safely as part of our mission to improve our quality of life and reduce the harmful effects of car dependence in our communities.

SAFE SIDEWALKS CREW

BikePGH is supporting a volunteer pedestrian advocacy group, Pittsburgh Walks, to assess the quality of sidewalks across the City, and we need volunteers! Attend a training to learn how you can help simply by going for a walk and sharing what you notice.

SAFE TRIPS IN THE STRIP

Thousands of Pittsburghers travel to and through the Strip every day on their commutes and for shopping and visiting. Yet roads in the Strip remain some of the most confusing, aggressive, and dangerous. Every Pittsburgh resident deserves streets that are safe and accessible, no matter how they choose to get around.

PARKING PROTECTED BIKE LANES

Municipalities in Pennsylvania lack the ability to easily install protected bike lanes and pedestrian plazas to physically separate people from car traffic. Due to a technicality in the PA Vehicle Code that requires cars to be parked within 12” of the curb, Pennsylvanians are denied a life-saving tool that has been used successfully in states and municipalities across the country.

Week Without Driving PGH

The Week Without Driving is a nationwide movement to link the needs of disabled individuals and people of all ages with environmental movements and accessible community planning. Throughout the week we illustrate challenges and opportunities for non-drivers and call for change that improves mobility for all.

WE BIKE. WE WALK. WE VOTE.

We educate Pittsburghers on how candidates for public office will fight for biking and walking improvements. Find out what the candidates, and now elected officials say about street safety, livability, and transportation. Be sure to Pledge to vote in your upcoming election!
