BikeFest Q & A

Friend—
You may have heard about BikeFest, the upcoming annual fundraiser of BikePGH, on August 12th. You may have questions about BikeFest. We will now answer all of the questions that you have, in exactly the way that you have worded them.

Q: Will BikeFest take place in somewhere sophisticated and impressive like an opera house?
A: Yes! In fact, it will be held in the Pittsburgh Opera, at 2425 Liberty Ave in the Strip District.

Q: So in other words it is not like RidingLawnMowerFest, which I hear is being hosted at a municipal sewage treatment facility.
A: No. No, it is not at all like RidingLawnMowerFest.

Q: I am very important. Is there an event for people like me?
A: There is indeed. The VIP event takes place from 6 to 8pm and is catered by the redoubtable Kevin Sousa, of Salt of the Earth. Superb music and drinks will be enjoyed by the best-calf-muscled individuals in all of greater Pittsburgh. VIP admission includes admission to the main event.

Q: I do not know what “redoubtable” means.
A: It’s a sort of cutesy arch word for “very talented.” Kevin Sousa is awesome, is what we are saying.

Q: So what’s this main event you’re talking about?
A: The main event is from 8pm to midnight. It will be an action-packed smorgasbord of bumpin’ music by local DJs and a live band, tasty beverages from Penn Brewery, and hundreds of partygoers of all ages who want to help propel Pittsburgh’s transformation into a safer, more bike-friendly city. There will also be a silent auction featuring brand-new bikes, bike tours, and other bike-oriented delights.

Q: “Action-packed smorgasbord”?
A: BikePGH did not hire a professional copywriter to do this humorous informational email. So, yes. “Action-packed smorgasbord.”

Q: BikePGH doesn’t use its fundraising to pay copywriters to write humorous informational emails? Then what does BikePGH need funds for?!
A: BikePGH publishes the Pittsburgh Bike Map, installs bike racks around the city, pushes for more bike lanes, and generally brings much-needed awareness to biking issues around the region. So that’s all pretty important.

Q: That is pretty important. BikePGH definitely sounds like more of a force for good than RidingLawnMowerPGH.
A: Yes. You really shouldn’t go to their fundraiser.

Q: Hey! Wait a second! I just realized that it’s sort of weird that you’ve anticipated the exact wording of every question that I have!
A: Um! That is sort of weird! It’s definitely not because we have implanted a surveillance module in your head while you were asleep!

Q: Okay good. See you on the 12th.
A: And don’t forget, this party is kicking off 10 full days of bike themed events.

Q: Why are you complicating this?
A: We ask ourselves that every year.

Love,
BikePGH
