Help make Pittsburgh a safer place for people to bike and walk
The City of Pittsburgh will hold a capital budget public hearing on Wednesday, October 29th in Morningside (location details below) and they want to hear from city residents like you.
The capital budget determines the amount of money spent on infrastructure projects which include biking and walking projects. So, consider what changes you want to see in your community and join BikePGH at the public hearing on Wednesday, October 29. If we work together and tell our stories, we can show city officials that biking and walking improvements are really important to making Pittsburgh a vibrant, livable place.
What would I even say?
Talk about your experience biking in Pittsburgh — you’re an expert on the state of your most traveled routes and that’s why the city wants to hear from you. What roads have you learned to avoid? Tell them about that. Each person has 3 minutes, but taking up less time is fine as well. We’re recommending the following structure for testimony:
- State your name and where you live.
- Give a personal story that illustrates the state of biking and walking in your neighborhood or in Pittsburgh. Be specific. Feel free to state the exact intersection or block if you want.
- Say “I support allocating more money for biking and walking.”
Pro tip: Bring photos if you have them. The capital budget determines which infrastructure projects are prioritized, so photos of problems sites are really useful for making determinations.
To to sign up to speak, contact Jennifer Sample Presutti at 412-255-2640 or jennifer.sample@pittsburghpa.gov. Remember, you must be a city resident.
If you can’t attend the hearing in person, you can submit written testimony ahead of time by emailing jennifer.sample@pittsburghpa.gov or by mail:
