Riding is better with friends. Plan a BikeFest Event!

Pittsburgh’s eleventh annual BikeFest Celebration is almost here! For the uninitiated, BikeFest is our annual celebration of all-things-cycling.

During BikeFest, anyone* can organize a bike-themed event and become a part of the celebration. Without you BikeFest would be impossible to put on year after year. BikePGH needs your help, creativity and zany ideas!

Festivities famously begin on August 21st with the BikeFest Kick-Off Party and culminate with the 22nd anniversary of the regions largest bicycle ride, PedalPGH. Now go forth and create the ride of your dreams.

We know what you’re thinking: “I could never host a BikeFest ride. I wouldn’t even know where to start.”  You’re in luck! Hosting an activity at BikeFest is easy, and any idea is a good idea.

Having coffee with neighbors to talk bikes? That’s a BikeFest event.

A race to Ohio and back? That’s a BikeFest event.

A casual bike ride to the pool–you guessed it–could also be a BikeFest event. Here are a few of more than 100 that were listed in our 2014 calendar:

Pinball Ride:  Ride the back roads out to the PAPA pinball world championships in Carnegie, PA.

Moonlight Ride: Explore Pittsburgh under the stars in a fun group setting.

Coastin’ to Coca Café: Grab breakfast at Coca with some fellow commuters.

Still not ready to submit your own event and need some more ideas to get inspired? Take a look at last year’s recap and the event calendar, or Portland, OR’s PedalPalooza festival. The last day to submit an event is Monday, August 3rd, 2014.

Most of the festivities will be detailed in a full-page ad in City Paper, but due to space constraints, your event’s placement in the paper is not guaranteed. All events will be listed online.

Can my company sponsor BikeFest?

BikeFest is one of the best ways to support BikePGH’s efforts to make Pittsburgh more bike-friendly and get in front of thousands of healthy, hip, environmentally-conscious people. If you or your company want to sponsor BikeFest,  email mike@bikepgh.org to inquire about sponsorship opportunities.

Who organizes BikeFest?

The calendar of events is open to anyone who wants to organize an event and relate it to the bicycle. Bike Pittsburgh provides the framework, acting as the “hub” to catalyze the events and get the word out. Click here to submit your event. Be creative!

Where is BikeFest?

BikeFest is anywhere and everywhere around the Pittsburgh region. Each event will start in a different location. The calendar will have location details.
