Downtown bike commuters, residents, and visitors now have a plethora of parking options
Once upon a time, if you were a cyclist heading Downtown, your best option for “secure” parking would have been to lock to a tree or parking meter. City bike parking has come a long way since, from the early struggles of Bike Pittsburgh to install bike racks to our recent (and first!) Bike Parking Design Workshop. For its part, Downtown now boasts up-to-date racks, street parking that doubles as public art, and a number of City and private sheltered facilities for cyclists.
Downtown garages
All Pittsburgh Parking Authority Garages have free sheltered bike racks. The 3rd Avenue Garage features an expanded public bike parking facility (pictured above) with space for 30 bikes and a fix-it station. You can park there for free, or you can lease a spot in a separate, secure parking area for $100 annually.

Century Building Bicycle Commuter Center
Conveniently located near the Cultural District, the Century Building (7th and Penn) offers covered, secure parking inside repurposed shipping containers. You can lease a space for $100 annually. Free parking racks are installed outside the building as well.
Street parking
With the addition of over a hundred new bike racks Downtown in the past decade, parking meters and trees can breathe a bit easier.
Still, Downtown is a busy place and we know that there is always demand for more street racks. You can suggest new locations for racks with the City Planning office here. Business owners can also work with Bike Pittsburgh to purchase and install new racks.
Take action for a safe Fifth/Forbes. There is an urgent need for safe spaces to bike in Oakland – the Fifth/Forbes corridor is deadly for cyclists. We need YOU to join our coalition to take action and help us transform the corridor.
