We’re teaching people of all ages how to ride bikes at this free event series in partnership with CitiParks and POGOH!
Back for 2026! In partnership with CitiParks and POGOH, BikePGH is popping up at The Bud Harris Cycling Track to provide free group learn-to-ride classes (registration required) for youth aged 5-12 and teens (12+) through adults this summer.
Sign up for an instructor-led group class, practice on the track, or let your younger kids loose at our Kids Balance Bike Zone. Say hi to The Bike People who will be on hand for all things biking in Pittsburgh, such as info on OpenStreetsPGH and PedalPGH, and everything BikePGH and POGOH have in store this year!
New for 2026 we will be offering Saturday morning events in addition to our Friday evening events to provide even more opportunities to learn to ride with us.
Where:
Bud Harris Cycling Track, 1401 Washington Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15206
When:
- Friday, May 15th: 4pm – 7pm
- Saturday, June 13th: 10am – 1pm
- Friday, July 10th: 4pm – 7pm
- Saturday, August 15th: 10am-1pm
The track and Kids Balance Bike Zone will be open for the duration of the event. For children under 5, enjoy our walk-up Kids Balance Bike Zone for free practice (no registration is needed for that area). More experienced riders can also practice on the outer track with a 10 mph speed limit.
**Pre-registration is not needed for the Kids Balance Bike Zone or the outer track, but registration is required for all instructor-led classes (see below).
Register for Group Classes
Group Learn to Ride classes start at 4:30 pm and 5:45 pm on Fridays and 10:30 am and 11:45 am on Saturdays and are one-hour in length. Registration before the event is preferred, but we will have a limited amount of walk up spots.
Our classes use a “Balance First” method so training wheels should be removed beforehand. Pedals may also be removed during class. Please bring your child’s properly fitting bike in good working order with tires pumped up firmly (we will not have time to repair bikes during the class.) A limited number of loaner bikes will be available (first come first served.) Please wear closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops) and please bring a properly fitting helmet. Helmets must be worn at all times while riding. We can provide loaner helmets as long as supplies last.

This year’s “Learn 2 Ride” series is made possible thanks to generous support from Edgar Snyder and Associates.
What about adults?

Are you an adult looking to learn to ride? Our 12+ classes accept adults too! If you’d like a more private setting, check out POGOH’s free 101 and 201 classes or contact us to request private lessons from an instructor! See all of our adult class options here.
