Tour De Lebo 10/10/10

Inaugural Year

With the first Tour de Mount Lebanon taking place next Sunday (10/10/10) BikePGH asked Eric Milliron, ride organizer and Commercial Districts Manager, about what participants might expect other than a few hills.

BP:Tell us a little about Mount Lebanon?

EM: Mt. Lebanon is home to an amazing array of residential architectural styles and master landscapes. The community was originally a trolley town, but after the construction of the Liberty Tubes became one of America’s first automobile suburbs. The different development patterns will be obvious to tour goers. In addition, Mt. Lebanon is a walking community and  pedestrian in scale. This will offer cyclists numerous chances to stop at a café or rest in one of our many parklets. The Tour will also present cyclists with a physical challenge. Mt. Lebanon is a hilly place. It will offer folks a good workout and training for the dirty dozen.

BP:What will participants see?

EM:Every neighborhood in Mt. Lebanon and every business district. Countless architectural styles, cool vistas and great shops and restaurants.

BP:Where will they go?

EM:They will take either a 15 or 25 mile circuitous loop throughout Mt Lebanon on mostly secondary residential streets.

BP:What inspired the ride?

EM:A need to showcase Mt. Lebanon’s diverse community, business districts and landscapes. I consider the grandfather/mother to be Pedal Pittsburgh for inspiration.

BP:What’s the future hold for Mt. Lebanon bicycling initiatives?

EM:A lot. Mt. Lebanon has an active bike/ped committee, robust cycling groups and a commitment to develop amenities and connectivity for cyclists to Pittsburgh’s downtown and Oakland and the regional trail networks.

Travel and Leisure just named Mt. Lebanon among the 25 “Coolest Suburbs Worth a Visit”
