BikePGH Seeking a Communications Manager

Communications is core to BikePGH’s mission and advocacy. We are looking for a highly motivated, talented individual to lead and expand our communications and media work. Primary responsibilities will include managing BikePGH’s communications including our blog, press releases, newsletter, website, media/social media, marketing and outreach materials, and other special projects. The individual will also manage certain graphic design projects, create a communications plan to help grow our audience, and when appropriate, act as an organizational spokesperson.

This full-time position reports to BikePGH’s Executive Director and works closely with a talented team of biking and walking advocates.

The right candidate for BikePGH’s communications position will:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate our communications plan to reach various audiences in Pittsburgh (think core members, potential members, and people who have yet to hear about our work);

  • Be a creative and motivated self-starter and be capable of and enthused about working with a team;

  • Put communications tools in place to create momentum and awareness as well as to test the effectiveness of communications activities;

  • Act as spokesperson for the organization when appropriate;

  • Have at least three years of communications or professional writing/editing experience;

  • Have stellar oral, written, and presentation skills;

  • Have experience in graphic design, email newsletter production, and social media;

  • Be well-versed in WordPress, MailChimp, Pages, Word, Bonus points if you have communication design and/or video production experience;

  • Be familiar with local and national media outlets as well as social media (Including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Vine, YouTube, Instagram);

  • Have experience managing others, such as volunteers and interns;

  • Demonstrate passion for creating a better city through biking and walking;

  • Be familiar with bicycle and pedestrian issues, urban design, planning, transportation, and politics.

  • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force in order to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels;

  • Thinking strategically is second nature to you but you also enjoy rolling up your sleeves to get the work done;

  • You have knowledge about and interest in advocacy, walkability, bike infrastructure, and community organizing. You have a strong desire to use communications for positive social impact and to take the local bike/ped movement to the next level;

  • You communicate in order to inspire people to take action;

  • You geek out over a well-designed infographic, and perhaps have even made one or two yourself;

  • You can help a fun, hard-working bike ped advocacy organization create engaging content that reaches core and new audiences.
