The Allegheny Trail Alliance is seeking their next Executive Director

untitled-1

Founded in 1995, the Allegheny Trail Alliance (“ATA”) is a coalition of trail building organizations that celebrated the completion of its 150 mile Great Allegheny Passage (“GAP”) rail-trail in 2013. With the completion of the GAP, cyclists have for years been able to complete the journey both ways on two wheels between Washington, DC and Pittsburgh, PA. The ATA also includes the Montour Trail which, when completed, will provide a connection to the Pittsburgh International Airport. The ATA raises money to market the trail through a variety of print and digital formats and provides guidance for uniform, system-wide design and operations. This includes Trailguide, the definitive guide to the towns, accommodations, points of interest, and other necessary information to have a positive experience on the GAP: https://gaptrail.org/plan-a-visit/trailguide.

This is a significant hire for the ATA as the organization pivots from being volunteer and board-led, to hiring its first compensated and full-time Executive Director to lead the organization into the future. Until now, the organization has achieved its results thanks to the volunteer leadership and determination of Linda McKenna Boxx who has been working with a volunteer Board of Directors and utilizing part-time staff resources from a private charitable foundation. With the trail complete and tens of thousands of users benefitting from it, the organization is preparing to move into its next phase of growth and development and needs a builder to help them achieve this bold leap into organizational independence and stability. The Executive Director will be the intelligent, thoughtful architect of the next phase of the organization’s life cycle. The ATA is a unique organization in that it does not own the GAP trail. Instead, the trail is owned and managed in segments by State and County Government, Municipalities, and  members of the Regional Trail Corporation.
