The Allegheny Bike/Ped Corridor Committee is reconvening soon with plenty to discuss after a pandemic-induced hiatus!

Guest Blog Post by The Allegheny Bike/Ped Corridor Committee

The committee is a group of local advocates from Sharpsburg, Aspinwall, O’Hara and Blawnox that want to make our river communities better for biking and walking. Their first meeting will be held on Monday, November 15th at 6pm and they are looking for new members!

The pandemic has demonstrated the importance of creating safe and accessible outdoor spaces while preserving and enhancing the walkable nature of our communities. The recent opening of the Etna Riverfront Park has also sparked renewed interest in bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure along the Allegheny River Corridor. This park puts us one step closer to a seamless link from our communities to the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, the Great Allegheny Passage, and the Erie to Pittsburgh Trail.

We have the momentum to advocate for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure that will further connect our communities to nature, increase foot traffic through our business districts, and improve the health, wellness and safety of our communities.

Join the next meeting on Monday, November 15

If you are passionate about making the Allegheny River Corridor more bike and pedestrian friendly, come join us on November 15th, at 6pm! (Location to be determined). Other topics of focus at the meeting will include riverfront trail planning along Sharpsburg, Aspinwall, and O’Hara; bike/ped infrastructure connections throughout these neighborhoods + Fox Chapel and Blawnox; and our future plans for the committee.
