Together, we transform streets to transform lives: Part 1

The goal of BikePGH’s work is to make it safer and easier for Pittsburghers to get around the city by foot and on wheels. Our 2023 campaign focuses on stories of people whose daily lives have been transformed thanks to BikePGH’s advocacy for increased and improved mobility infrastructure.

Do these stories resonate with you? Do you want to help make even more of these stories a reality?

Bruce’s Story

Biking on Penn Ave to get to his barber and other Garfield and Bloomfield area businesses forced Bruce to ride with the car traffic, as there is no room for people riding bikes. He would feel pressured to keep up with drivers’ speeds or potentially face road rage.

The opening of the Bloomfield Friendship Neighborway on Coral Street and Comrie Way provided relief. This Neighborway, which runs parallel to Penn Avenue, allows riders to go at their own pace, and provides easy access to businesses on Penn Avenue. Neighborways include traffic circles, painted bump-outs, crosswalks and signage provide a safer, self-paced alternative to busy commercial corridors like Penn Ave.

“Just a block away from Penn Avenue, the Bloomfield Friendship Neighborway allows me to bike at my own pace, stress-free to visit friends and businesses in Bloomfield, Friendship, and Garfield. And, it connects to the Negley Avenue and East Liberty Boulevard bike lanes. I love being connected!” – Bruce

Be a part of the transformation!

BikePGH’s year end campaign is our most important fundraiser. Your donations allow us to continue advocating for more and improved mobility infrastructure, like bike lanes and pedestrian walkways and intersections. We intend to keep leveling up the positive impact of our work by continuing to advocate for better biking and walking infrastructure across Pittsburgh in 2024.

Do you want more infrastructure? Donate today and your donation will be matched (that’s right, your donation will be DOUBLED for DOUBLE the impact of each and every dollar!).
