Together, we transform streets to transform lives: Part 3

The goal of BikePGH’s work is to make it safer and easier for Pittsburghers to get around the city by foot and on wheels. Our 2023 campaign focuses on stories of people whose daily lives have been improved thanks to BikePGH’s advocacy for increased and improved mobility infrastructure.

Your support helps make even more of these stories a reality!

For some Pittsburghers, bicycling is the main way they get to work, school, shopping, and appointments. This is why BikePGH pushes for connected bike routes. A small addition to the network can make a huge difference in people’s abilities to get to the places they need to be on a daily basis. A safe, connected bike and pedestrian network allows people to choose an inexpensive, accessible mode of transportation, making Pittsburgh a more equitable place.

Access to a connected bicycle network has transformed many lives, including Conor’s, who you’ll read about below.  Read on to hear his story and how your support is vital for making Pittsburgh safer and more equitable for everyone who bikes and walks.

Conor’s Story

Cycling opens up so much more of the city for me to participate in. The more the city becomes connected through bike infrastructure, the more places I can go!

Conor

Conor adopted cycling as his primary means of transportation due to a medical condition that prevents him from driving. He and his partner chose their neighborhood based on the bicycle infrastructure that provides safe routes to their Downtown jobs and city amenities. Though Conor can tackle most of the Dirty Dozen hills, he is more gratified by his ability to independently fulfill daily needs on his bike, such as grocery shopping.

Every household in Pittsburgh should be able to get groceries and get to work quickly and easily, even if they don’t have access to a car. Fulfilling our daily needs, and having access to amenities so vital to our lives, shouldn’t be unsafe due to a lack of safe connections in our biking and walking network.

Thanks to infrastructure that provides safe, connected bike routes to the places Conor goes on a daily basis, he has access to what he needs in order to thrive in our city without having to rely on a car to do so.
