Experience the Historic Hill District on foot or on wheels in a 3.5 mile car-free journey from the Hill through Downtown to Northside

We started off our 2024 OpenStreetsPGH series with a classic repeat route, but for June we are announcing a BRAND NEW route! For the first time ever, OpenStreetsPGH will be in the Historic Hill District on Saturday, June 29th from 10am – 2pm— Hills, Yeah!

Hosted by BikePGH and presented by UPMC Health Plan, OpenStreetsPGH is Pittsburgh’s fastest-growing free event series that opens miles of streets for people of all ages and abilities to explore our neighborhoods while biking, walking, and rolling.

Just Announced: OpenStreetsPGH June 29th Route

The 3.5 mile car free route will take you from the Historic Hill District into the heart of Downtown at Market Square, over the picturesque Roberto Clemente Bridge and into Northside to enjoy green space in Allegheny Commons West.

  • Where should I go? While you really can enjoy the event from anywhere on the route, the “Activity Hubs” are a great place to stop and connect with the community. The First National Bank Health & Wellness Hub in the Historic Hill District features fitness classes for all ages and skill levels hosted by the YMCA and musical performances from Nafasi on Centre. Be sure to check out the architecture and cultural landmarks in the Historic Hill District as you make your way to the Penguins Kids & Family Hub filled with activities from local organizations and a Learn to Ride course from BikePGH’s Education Team at Frankie Pace Park. Next up you’ll find theBikePGH Arts & Culture Hub in Market Square, complete with performances from 1Hood Media artists. This route wouldn’t be complete without heading over the iconic Roberto Clemente Bridge to explore the North Side ending in Allegheny Commons Park and the “hidden gem” Western Ave business district.
  • What will you see & find along the route? There will be dancing, shopping, biking, walking, yoga, children’s activities, running, lots of food, musical performances, and more. Be on the look out for a cooling station from our presenting sponsor UPMC Heath Plan and take a self-guided tour of culturally significant landmarks in the Historic Hill District. Be sure to check out the event schedule as the date gets closer.
    • For Hill District Residents- City in the Streets: In conjunction with OpenStreetsPGH, the Mayor’s office will be hosting City in the Streets. Hill District residents will have the opportunity to connect with representatives from every city department to discuss resources available and projects in the community.

  • How do I get to the event? However you’d like! We strongly suggest walking, riding a bike, or taking public transit. Check out details & directions on the Getting Here page.

  • How do I get around the road closure if I need to drive somewhere during the event? OpenStreetsPGH does not require continuous street closures. At each event, motorists can cross the route at several open vehicle intersections along each route. Here is the complete list of intersections that will be crossable via car:

I have a business/organization along the route. What do I need to know?

First and foremost, we would love to invite you to participate as an Activity Partner! We encourage establishments located directly along an OpenStreetsPGH event route to extend their storefronts onto the sidewalk or street during the event hours to provide activities and/or special offers for participants. Activities range from offering discounts to event attendees or having a fun activity, pop-up parklets, and everything in between. Click here to submit your Activity Partner application by June 12th.

Secondly, please see the road closures/no parking information above and let your staff and customers know about the changes and towing. Thank you!
