New Fall Confident City Cycling Classes Added and July and August Spaces are Filling Up!

Ride Confidently this Summer and Fall with Our Free Classes!

Ever wanted to try bike commuting, but didn’t know where to start? Our free Confident City Cycling classes will give you the skills and confidence to bike across town more often with less frustration. To get riders prepared for biking throughout the fall and winter we will be hosting two more classes in September and October to make sure cyclists know how to stay seen as daylight diminishes. Need bike lights? We’ll bring them for you!

BikePGH’s FREE three-hour Confident City Cycling Classes provide all the skills and knowledge to safely commute in Pittsburgh. Our City Cycling curriculum covers basic and advanced cycling skills, and best practices for solo and group riding, and includes a culminating group ride that utilizes the best of local bicycle infrastructure.

The Goal

As Pittsburgh’s infrastructure continues to grow and change, BikePGH aims to provide educational resources to residents so that people are confident in their ability to commute by bike. We want you to feel safe and empowered to get to where you need to go via bike, so we make it our mission to educate the public on how to safely utilize our bike infrastructure and learn the rules of the road.

League Cycling Instructors, Robin Woods and Markisha White demonstrate proper helmet fit for the class.

Our goal is to get more people on bikes and to change the perspective of biking in the city. Biking is not just for kids. It’s not just for people who can’t afford a car. It’s not just for people who have several thousand-dollar bikes. It’s not just for athletes.

Biking is for everyone no matter their age, gender, race, ethnicity, economic status, or ability. A bike is a vehicle for healthy transportation and independence that all people should have access to and be confident in using.

For these reasons, we’re offering this series of classes free of charge thanks to the support of our members and donors!

We understand that there can be many factors that would stop someone from being able to participate in this class. We aim to make the classes as inclusive and accessible as possible, including but not limited to:

  • 2 instructors to every 15 students to give the most quality and hands-on learning experience possible.
  • Access to free POGOH (bike share) bikes for the class for those who may not have their own.
  • Access to helmets (please notify education@bikepgh.org ahead of time if you need one)
  • A nationally certified curriculum built to bring knowledge to learners of all skills and ages
  • Access to other educational materials (the Official Pittsburgh Bike Map, 101 Cycling Guide, ‘What to do in a crash,’ and more).
