OpenStreetsPGH is returning to the East End on Saturday, July 27th

Scenes from OpenStreetsPGH adventuring through the East End and Homewood in 2022.

A new spin on a favorite route that connects Larimer, Homewood and Point Breeze

We started off our 2024 OpenStreetsPGH series with a classic repeat route in the South Side, and now for July we are re-visiting a city favorite with some new twists. On Saturday, July 27th from 10am – 2pm explore our re-imagined 2.5-mile course through East Liberty, Larimer, Homewood, and Point Breeze!

Hosted by BikePGH and presented by UPMC Health Plan, OpenStreetsPGH is Pittsburgh’s fastest-growing free event series that opens miles of streets for people of all ages and abilities to explore our neighborhoods while biking, walking, and rolling.

Just Announced: OpenStreetsPGH July 27th Route

The 2.5-mile car free route will take you from the heart of East Liberty through Larimer and Homewood to the newly completed (and freshly paved!) Rockwell Park in Point Breeze, ending at Braddock Ave.

  • Where should I go? While you really can enjoy the event from anywhere on the route, the “Activity Hubs” are a great place to stop and connect with the community. The course starts at the Edgar Snyder Kids & Family Hub complete with an amazing jungle gym and activities from local organizations. You don’t want to miss the main event at this Hub – our Learn to Ride course from BikePGH’s Education Department. Continue your ride through Larimer to the Homewood Community Wellness Hub featuring fitness classes for all ages and skill levels hosted by the YMCA and a collaboration with the Community Empowerment Association’s Homewood Community Health & Wellness Summit. Next up you’ll find the BikePGH Arts & Culture Hub, complete with activities and shopping from local businesses, as well as performances from 1Hood Media and MusicbyKEA.
  • What will you see & find along the route? There will be dancing, shopping, biking, walking, yoga, children’s activities, running, lots of food, musical performances, and more. Be on the look out for a cooling station from our presenting sponsor UPMC Heath Plan and visit local businesses along the route to treat yourself to a snack or fun little gift. You’re worth it! Be sure to check out all of the activities and events on our schedule.

  • How do I get to the event? However you’d like! We strongly suggest walking, riding a bike, or taking public transit. Check out details & directions on the Getting Here page.

  • How do I get around the road closure if I need to drive somewhere during the event? OpenStreetsPGH does not require continuous street closures. At each event, motorists can cross the route at several open vehicle intersections along each route. Here is the complete list of intersections that will be crossable via car:

  • East Liberty Vehicle Crossings
    • Larimer Ave + Broad St (Target Enter/Exit Only)
    • E Liberty Ave + Broad St/Frankstown Ave
  • Homewood Vehicle Crossings
    • Fifth Ave/Washington Blvd + Frankstown Ave
    • Homewood Ave + Bennett St
    • Homewood Ave + Hamilton Ave
  • End of Route
    • N Braddock Ave + Thomas Blvd

It is recommended to use Waze or Google Maps to help navigate road closures.

I live along the route. What do I need to know?

Streets will begin closing Saturday, July 27th at 9 a.m. and will start reopening around 2 p.m. ⚠️ Cars parked along the route must be moved before 3 a.m. on Saturday morning or they will be towed. ⚠️ “No Parking” signs will be placed along the route on Wednesday.

OpenStreetsPGH is made possible thanks to your support!  Help us keep this event free to the public by donating or becoming a member today.

I have a business/organization along the route. What do I need to know?

First and foremost, we would love to invite you to participate as an Activity Partner! We encourage establishments located directly along an OpenStreetsPGH event route to extend their storefronts onto the sidewalk or street during the event hours to provide activities and/or special offers for participants. Activities range from offering discounts to event attendees or having a fun activity, pop-up parklets, and everything in between. Click here to submit your Activity Partner application by July 17th.

Secondly, please see the road closures/no parking information above and let your staff and customers know about the changes and towing. Thank you!
