Reclaim Parking Spaces for People & Joy on September 21st!
The average parking spot in the US is 9′ x 18′. What could we do in that space if it wasn’t reserved for a car?
Park(ing) Day is an international event that allows us to rethink our city streets. In cities across the globe, people repurpose curbside parking spaces and turn them into community gatherings.
The day allows us to imagine what our city could look like if we had more space dedicated to people. What kind of economic activity could we create? What kind of community could we build?
This year, three neighborhoods in Pittsburgh are participating in Park(ing) Day 2024 on Saturday, September 21s, from 1pm to 6pm. There will be events held in Lawrenceville, Greenfield, and the North Side.
Lawrenceville – Better Street Lawrenceville’s event will take place at Butler & Main, and will have local vendors including Oliver’s Donuts & Main St Diner, as well as a map of Lawrenceville where you can suggest safety improvements.
Greenfield (1 – 5pm) – Greenfield Community Association is partnering with POGOH to get feedback from the community on a possible new bike share dock at Loretta & Murray Ave! This is the first POGOH dock proposed in Greenfield.
North Side – Makeshift Bikes (E Ohio & James Streets) will host an activity focused on community-driven street safety initiatives.
There are nearly 100 events happening throughout the United States, and even more around the world.
