Announcing our May 2026 events + How you can get rewards for supporting better biking and walking

May is National Bike Month and we have a ton in store for you here in Pittsburgh

Hang out and support our mission during our May 2026 events and programs; this is a great time to dust off your bikes, roll into spring riding season, and even get some perks while doing it!

Here’s what’s coming up:

➤ Bike to Work Day, Thursday, May 14 in Pittsburgh

Come visit us on your way to or from work– the only requirement is that you arrive by bike. Biking is better together, so bring a friend!

  • Stop by in the morning: Downtown Pittsburgh
    • Location: Arts Landing (803 Penn Ave)
    • Time: 7am – 10am
    • Free Coffee, Cinnaholic, and East End Food Co-op breakfast treats
  • Stop by in the evening: Strip District
    • Location: Helltown Brewing (1700 Penn Ave)
    • Time: 4pm – 7pm
    • Free Snacks and Happy Hour from Helltown Brewing, presented by Dashcam for Your Bike and Kevin Gieder Consulting

➤ Be there for our Secret Merch Drop

This Bike to Work Day we’ll have our FIRST-EVER secret merch drop! We won’t be pre-revealing any of these limited edition designs, so you’ll have to see them in person.  First come, first-served for our 2026 *secret merch* suite.


➤ Get your very own Pittsburgh Bike Map in PUZZLE form!

You asked, we listened. This is the FIRST time we’ve ever made anything like this.

➤ Refine your bike skills and knowledge

Sign up for a BikePGH class like Confident City Cycling to brush up on your skills no matter your level. They’re free and chock full of useful information and hands-on learning. See all classes and lessons here.


➤ Attend Bike Month Events in Pittsburgh, PA:

  • April 30 – Operation Illumination – Free bike light & helmet giveaway courtesy of Edgar Snyder & Associates | 5 – 7pm | De Fer Coffee in the Strip District
  • May 6 – Pittsburgh SRTS Walk and Roll to School Day
  • May 12 – Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams Fundraiser for BikePGH | 4 – 7PM | Eat ice cream and raise funds for BikePGH at Jeni’s BkSq
  • May 14 – Bike to Work Day – Free for bike commuters! Hang out and support BikePGH’s mission + Connect over free coffee and treats in the morning, and happy hour snacks and discounts in the evening. 
  • May 15 – Free Learn 2 Ride bike class for all ages (registration required) | Bud Harris Cycling Track
  • May 20 – Pittsburgh Ride of Silence – 7PM | Highland Park Fountain | On this day, bicyclists, friends, and family members will gather for a ceremony and bicycle ride to remember the bicyclists we’ve lost. Riders will observe silence during the ride, talking only as necessary.
  • May 26 – Neighborhood Walk in Downtown Pittsburgh – Take a walk with us to explore different Pittsburgh neighborhoods, engage with neighbors, and assess street safety and accessibility.
  • May 30 – SPRING BIKE PICNIC – 10AM | Frick Environmental Center | Ticketed event | 15-mile marshaled on-street bike ride touring some of the city’s best bike lanes, followed by a hot dog picnic at noon.

➤ Show up for safe streets

As the weather warms, people are getting back on their bikes and out on foot, but still too many folks don’t feel safe doing it! When you support BikePGH whether by making a donation or attending an event, you help power the work that makes our streets more connected, more accessible, and safer for everyone that uses them, as we:

  • Advocate for protected bike lanes
  • Push for safer crossings and traffic calming
  • Expand educational programs like Learn2Ride
  • Build a city where more people feel confident choosing to bike or walk
