BikePGH wrapped up National Bike Month the best way we know how: Raising money for our mission, together on bikes!
Our first-ever Spring Bike Picnic brought over 200 bike riders together at the Frick Environmental Center for a 15-mile marshaled ride through Point Breeze, Homewood, East Liberty, Bloomfield, The Strip District, Polish Hill, Oakland, Shadyside, and Squirrel Hill. It was a breezy ride with pristine weather, and we truly had great fun.
But most importantly, this event brought people together to support safer, more connected streets.

Pittsburgh’s bike network exists because hardworking people like you show up and push for it
The ride route linked up some of Pittsburgh’s most impactful bike infrastructure wins, from the Forbes Ave Protected Bike Lanes to the Penn Ave corridor in the Strip District, through East Liberty’s Penn Circle, and along neighborhood connections like Ellsworth, Beechwood, and the Bloomfield/Friendship Neighborway.
These “wins” are the result of over 20 years of advocacy, organizing, and community support. THIS is what’s possible when a community comes together around a shared vision.
And that’s exactly what we celebrated back at Frick Environmental Center
Picture it: hot dogs from Bottle Dogs, cool treats from Kona Ice, delicious drinks from Vital Sips, lawn games, and kicking back in the park. Actually, you don’t have to just picture it, because we have the actual photos right here:

If you snapped photos with our self-service selfie booth, your photos can be found here:

Huge thanks to Duquesne Light Company for powering the event as our Energy Provider, and to the local vendors who helped make the day extra special– Bottle Dogs, Kona Ice Pittsburgh, Cottle Built, Vital Sips, Frick Environmental Center, and and our Bike/Ped Advocacy friends who are doing hard work in their neighborhoods every day.
Also thanks to our ride marshals, volunteers, staff, and supporters who made it all happen.

And, finally, thank you to our dedicated Fundraiser Riders, who personally raised additional funds to support our mission, and to everyone who added an additional donation to their ticket purchase. We see you, and we appreciate you!
The Spring Bike Picnic directly supported BikePGH’s work to make Pittsburgh’s streets safer and more accessible for everyone… thank you for showing up and showing out.

We’ve built real momentum over the past two decades, but there’s still more to improve about biking and walking in Pittsburgh.
