Put on your thinking helmet and plan a fun BikeFest event
The tenth annual BikeFest Celebration is almost here. For the uninitiated, BikeFest is our annual celebration of all-things-cycling. This event is open to all* individuals and organizations that would like to organize a bike-themed event during the dates of August 8-24th. Festivities famously begin on August 8th with the BikeFest Kick-Off Party and culminate with the 21st anniversary of the regions largest bicycle ride, PedalPGH.
Without you BikeFest would be impossible to put on year after year. BikePGH needs your help, creativity and zany ideas to host the plethora of events to make BikeFest a success!
Last year we have over one hundred events hosted by people just like you. Yes, we know what you’re thinking, “I could never host a BikeFest ride. I wouldn’t even know where to start.” Well you are in luck, hosting an activity at BikeFest is easy and just starts with an idea. The best part: any idea is a good idea.
Having coffee with neighbors to talk bikes, that’s a BikeFest event.
A race to Ohio and back, that’s a BikeFest event.
A casual bike ride to the pool–you guessed it–could also be a BikeFest event. Here are a few of more than 100 that were listed in our 2013 calendar:
2 Bridges, 3 Rivers, 21 Miles: What could be more fun then going on a 21 mile bike ride admiring some of Pittsburghs major creations?
Moonlight Ride: Explore Pittsburgh under the stars in a fun group setting.
Trees of Pittsburgh: Tree Pittsburgh and TreeVitalize took riders through Southside, Downtown, Allegheny Center and Lawrenceville to see Pittsburgh’s urban forests.
Still not ready to submit your own event and need some more ideas to get inspired? Take a look at last year’s recap and last August on the BikeFest online calendar, or Portland, OR’s PedalPalooza festival. The last day to submit is Thursday, July 24th 2014.
Most events will be listed in a full-page ad in City Paper, but due to space constraints, your event’s placement in the paper is not guaranteed. All events will be listed online.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email us at bikefest@bikepgh.org
*We reserve the right to not list any event we find offensive.
