Find out what’s happening during the first weekend of #BikeFestPGH 2015

BikeFest is Bike Pittsburgh’s annual celebration of all-things-cycling. Rolling right into it, the first weekend boasts the annual BikeFest Kickoff Party on Friday, August 21st and is packed with many exciting, community-led events.

Here’s a rundown of just a few of our favorite events. For the full list of BikeFest events, check out the BikeFest Google calendar.

Day 1: Friday, August 21

412 Flock – Flock to BikeFest Party
5:45 – 8:00pm | Meet: Dippy the Dinosaur – 4100 Forbes Ave
Ease on out of the week and into BikeFest in the most appropriate way: with a 412 Flock ride! This will be a slow-paced, family-friendly ride ending at the BikeFest party in at Spirit Lodge in Lawrenceville. FREE!

BikeFest Party
8:00pm – 1:00am | Spirit Lodge in Lawrenceville
Strap on your dancing shoes and head down to Spirit Lodge in Lawrenceville. This year’s BikeFest party will make full use of the new venue’s two floors. Downstairs three local bands will play for your entertainment, and upstairs two DJs will keep the dance party going. The party is just $10 for BikePGH members and $15 for non-members. Skip the line at the door and get your tickets today.

Day 2: Saturday, August 22

Bike Fishing on the Yough with Venture Outdoors
Consider starting your day with a little fishing. This outing will take you to lesser known fishing spots along the river that can only be accessed by bike or on foot.

Pool Tour 2015
12:45 – 5:45pm | Meet: Friendship Parklet at Mathilda
Why leave it to the fish? You get to do the swimming at the infamous, annual pool tour. This ride has straightforward objectives: ride bikes, swim in pools, and have fun. Capeesh? FREE!

Two Wheels Lots of Green with GTech Strategies
2:00 – 9:00pm | Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse – 1055 Spring Garden Ave, 15212
In its 4th year, this ride is quickly becoming a BikeFest staple. Join other urban explorers on a tour of recently transformed greenspaces on the Northside. Eateries along the way will provide snacks along the way. The ride will end at the Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse in Spring Garden.

Monster Trike Night
9:00pm | Sprit Lodge 242 51st Street, Lawrenceville
Adult big wheel racing. Need we say more? $8 gets you all the racing you can handle.

Day 3: Sunday, August 23

PMTCC Tour De Red Belt Ride
7:00am – 2:00pm | 885 Progress Street parking lot
Join Pittsburgh Major Taylor Cycling Club on a ride along Pittsburgh’s most remote belt route – the red belt. FREE!

Pedal and Paint
9:00am – 12:00pm | Meet: 46th at Butler at the benches and statue
Bring your own paint supplies & bike to pedal through Lawrenceville, Bloomfield, and Oakland—stopping in three spots to paint the urban landscape.

Try a Bike Jamboree
10:00am – 3:00pm | Bud Harris Cycling Oval
Wanna try a recumbent, fatbike, or unicycle? Now’s your chance! Bicycle enthusiasts from around the region will bring a variety of bikes and trikes from their personal collections and allow short test rides. FREE!

Pittsburgh Roubaix 2015: A Sunday in Hell with the Lid Off
12:00 – 5:00pm | Flagstaff Hill – Frew Street at Schenley Drive
Back by popular demand, the Pittsburgh Roubaix is a competitive checkpoint ride highlighting Pittsburgh’s best cobblestones. Registration is at noon; race starts 1pm. $5 with a helmet $10 without.

BikeFest is an event for the community, by the community.
