Biking Through the Ages Webinar June 14th!

Experience the Joys of Biking at Any Age

Did you know that over half of BikePGH’s membership is over forty-five years old and that the majority of bike riders along the Great Allegheny Passage are over the age of fifty? It is a popular misconception that cycling is only enjoyed by younger people, but the reality is that cycling for transportation, sport, and leisure is extremely popular among older adults as well.

For many adults, being 50+ or nearing retirement is not a time to slow down, but to instead gear up for new cycling adventures! Whether participating in bike tours or charity rides, joining or forming bike clubs, or volunteering and teaching; many adult bike riders have taken to cycling with gusto and have shown no signs of slowing with age. These riders have accumulated decades of experience on bikes. To share this wealth of knowledge from expert cyclists in our community, BikePGH and AARP have partnered to create the Biking Through the Ages Webinar, a panel discussion hosted online via Zoom on June 14th, 2022 from 6pm – 8pm.

In the Biking Through the Ages Webinar, our experienced, approachable panelists will discuss different styles of biking and different types of bikes; note how they have developed, enjoyed, and adapted the way they ride throughout the years; and explore how biking contributes to making Pittsburgh a safer, more livable community for people of all ages. They will also answer questions from the audience.

The webinar is an excellent place to learn about:

  • Equipment and adaptations for long-distance cycling and touring
  • E-bikes
  • Trail riding and bike touring
  • Getting back to cycling after a long break
  • Getting involved with clubs and teams
  • Bike education
  • Volunteering in the bike community
  • And much more
