Showing appreciation for volunteers, advocates, and educators

Cheers to all of the volunteers, advocates, and educators who met up with us at Trace Brewing for the Advocacy Meeting and Volunteer Happy Hour

These are the people who make it all happen

On Election Day over 30 volunteers, educators, and advocates gathered at Trace Brewing to celebrate the hard work we all put in to push forward BikePGH’s mission of transforming our streets to make biking and walking commonplace for all Pittsburghers.

At this meeting of the minds it was great to see so many folks who work behind the scenes come together and connect with one another. We chatted about the different ways all of these communities make BikePGH’s work possible while enjoying snacks and beverages.

These are the talented individuals and groups pushing for safer streets through grassroots advocacy, teaching biking to others throughout the year, and supporting BikePGH, OpenStreetsPGH, PedalPGH through volunteering! The generous time and effort put in by everyone has paid off with a fantastic events season, many new infrastructure updates, and countless educational classes and resources.

This can be you

Did you know that there are over 400 volunteer opportunities during our event season alone? BikePGH hosts all three OpenStreetsPGH events in May, June, and July and hosts our annual fundraiser PedalPGH in August. Volunteers play an integral role in keeping these events safe, fun, and successful, and we can’t thank this amazing community enough for all their dedication.

Become an Advocate

There are also a number of neighborhood specific bike-ped committees throughout the city and region that BikePGH supports and works with to make change. These hyper-local advocates are dedicated to making their neighborhood better for biking and walking, through grassroots advocacy and community building.

We met up at the happy hour to talk shop and enjoy some beverages for our monthly advocacy meeting. You can join or start an advocacy Neighborhood Bike-Ped Committee in your neighborhood, too! To get started, check out this page.

A number of local cycling educators also gathered at Trace to talk shop and reflect on a successful year of equipping people with the know-how to cycle safely and learn new skills in a remarkable community.
