We are excited to host our June OpenStreetsPGH in Downtown and the South Side on Sunday, June 28th from 10am-2pm. This 2 miles of car-free fun includes tons of places to explore, from cultural hubs to beloved neighborhood restaurants, and everything in between! These are some of our recommendations for places to check out, before, during, and after the event.

Food & Beverage

  • Cafe Momentum – 268 Forbes Ave
    • Café Momentum is an award-winning restaurant and culinary training facility, who aims to transform young lives by equipping Pittsburgh’s justice-involved youth with life skills, education and employment opportunities to help them achieve their full potential.
  • Cilantro & Ajo – 901 E Carson St
    • Seeking a unique taste of South America? Look no further! After the 10th Street Bridge, hang a right onto E Carson to fill your belly at Cilantro & Ajo. In 2015, owners Anthony and Marlyn with their daughters moved to Pittsburgh from Venezuela, bringing with them their passion and talent for cooking. Their arepas are boasting with flavor and spice that few can duplicate.
  • Delanie’s Coffee – 1737 E Carson St
    • Need a mid-day pick me up while you’re enjoying OpenStreetsPGH? Pop into Delanie’s for beverages with a boost. While you’re there, take a look at the unique décor that is updated periodically by work from local artists. The open-air storefront is a great spot to watch people bustling on E. Carson Street during the event.
  • Kassab’s – 1207 E Carson St
    • Directly on the OpenStreetsPGH route you will find classic Lebanese, Mediterranean & other Middle Eastern dishes at Kassab’s. Try out their falafel, tabbouli, grape leaves, and lamb kebabs for a delicious and flavorful meal.
  • La Gourmandine – 308 Forbes Ave
    • Locally owned bakery bringing the taste of France to Pittsburgh with delicious fresh pastries, cakes, and baguettes. You don’t want to miss out on the almond croissants or eclairs!
  • Mediterranean Market – 2021 E Carson St
    • Look no further for delicious, authentic Syrian food! At Mediterranean Market, you can find classic fare like kebabs and hummus, alongside unique dishes such as kibbe, loobyeh, and maamoul.
  • Millie’s Homemade Ice Cream – 246 Forbes Ave
    • Is there a better way to cool off on OpenStreetsPGH day than with refreshing homemade ice cream and sorbet? Millie’s has become a Pittsburgh staple with flavors ranging from Chad’s Vanilla to dairy-free mango!
  • Original Oyster House – 20 Market Square
    • 153 years old, the Original Oyster House is Pittsburgh’s oldest bar and restaurant. Stop in for their Famous Ribbon Cut Pittsburgh Taters, made fresh daily New England Clam Chowder, and a little taste of Pittsburgh history.
  • Velum Fermentation – 2120 Jane St
    • While not directly on the event route, Velum Fermentation is worth the stroll a few blocks off E Carson to Jane Street. With delicious house brewed beers, NA options, delicious eats from Cold Friends Kitchen, and vintage arcade games, you can’t go wrong coming here after OpenStreetsPGH (or anytime!) to relax.

  • Arts Landing
    • Enjoy downtown’s newest public park and events space with year-round attractions such as Salsa Nights, Moonlight Movies, gallery crawls, and fitness classes!
  • The August Wilson African American Cultural Center – 980 Liberty Ave
    • Since 2006, the August Wilson Center has been a bastion of culture downtown. They put it best, this multi-disciplinary arts center is “dedicated to the celebration of the African American journey and presenting its unique and extraordinary role in the creation of popular culture in America and beyond.”
  • Benedum Center for the Performing Arts – 237 7th St
    • The Benedum is a hub for all things theater, music, and dance in Pittsburgh. Whether you’re looking for a hit musical or classic ballet, you can find it all at this gorgeous, 2800-seat theater.
  • City Theatre Company – 1300 Bingham St
    • Founded in 1975, City Theatre has been making art for the Pittsburgh community for over 50 years! Check them out for upcoming performances and festivals.
  • Harris Theater – 809 Liberty Ave
    • The only movie theater downtown, this 200-seater specializes in classic, independent, and foreign movies.
  • Market Square
    • Everyone knows Market Square, but not everyone has seen this beautiful public plaza since its recent renovation! Check out this beautiful, people-first gathering space for weekly yoga, markets, and events, or to take a load-off during a busy day downtown.
  • PPG Plaza Water Feature – 1 Third Ave
    • Take a break from biking, walking, and rolling at OpenStreetsPGH to sit by the cool spray of the PPG Plaza water features and admire the nearly one million square feet of mirrored glass Neo-gothic architecture that has been an icon of Pittsburgh’s skyline since 1981.

  • Thick Bikes – 62 S 15th St
    • We cannot say enough good things about this bike shop! Locally owned with a wealth of knowledge and expertise, these guys will get you in tip top shape with gear for your cycling adventures or fitted with a new bike ready to roll. Not to mention, Thick Bikes always supports OpenStreetsPGH by hosting a party on event day outside the shop. Be sure to check them out for a good time!

    • If you’re looking for a new piercing, check out this business for calm, clean, and professional service. They also boast a gorgeous selection of jewelry for those with existing piercings.

    • Check out this woman-owned shop for a variety of gifts created by over 100 Pittsburgh-based artists and makers!
  • Neighborhood Flea Market – 434 27th St
    • Every second Sunday from May-October, check out this amazing vintage and re-sale market for clothes, art, trinkets, and food!
